World's Biggest Ghost Hunt: Pennhurst Asylum (2019)
Mythbusters Meets Paranormal
So I just had chance to watch this, didn't even know about it until someone told me after the fact and wow is this something great! When I say great that is an understatement, I mean like GREAT GREAT!
Pros:
1.) First off, you have a team of investigators who all work well together and compliment each other despite not all knowing each other. Kudos to casting for pulling something off that most others cast to create controversy. It gives ALOT of credibility to their efforts when you realize most of them are engineers or scientists and have real day jobs and aren't just actors or film gurus. I get vibes of a nerdy type big bang theory at times but with the adventure aspect of the Hardy Boys.
2.) This is the first time in a LONG time I felt like I actually learned something form a paranormal show. When I say learn, I mean learn like Mythbusters or Bill Nye. A faraday cage is the real deal (I looked it up lol) and now I won't ever go investigating without one, so thank you for that guys! Makes you wonder about the rest of the shows who don't pay attention to the fine details like this.
3.) Concept of staying in a location for two weeks is insanely genius because unless you are a psychic (or in my words a psycho) paranormal stuff rarely happens on que and in a short time frame. Being there for what 336 hours is literally next level. This is what I loved about Lockdown with Nick and Katrina and now this show literally takes the next steps.
4.) For the first time in years (yes years) I have been able to sit through the entire story and felt fully engaged and interested to the end. All the other new recent shows on other networks I sit there and can't even last the hour but this was truly different for me.
Cons:
1.) Of course there was no time for "evidence review" (which is really a waste of time recapping events already seen prior in the episode, hello DVR people just rewind and watch again if you forget that easily) because a two week investigation crammed into two hours in insane. I want to see the rest of the footage A&E! I seriously want to learn more about this investigation and see all the stuff that wasn't able to fit.
Conclusion:
This show, the investigators, the concept all hit the mark for me. I've been an investigator and a paranormal tv enthusiast for 15 years and I LOVE the fact that I learned something new and can make good use of it on my own hunts. A&E should expand on this and turn this two week special into an entire series, I don't think that has ever been done before exploring a single place for an entire series with each night / day a new episode. Overall I'm glad to have stumbled upon this as this is truly a gem of a show in my opinion.
