The 1 stars have completely missed the point.
4 June 2023
First, I'm by very far not a bible freak. I am also very far from a conspiracy theorist. Last I have only seen first half at this point and it is 2023.

There is clearly a misunderstanding of what this is meant to be. It is not meant to be a disaster movie, it is not meant to be a documentary. What it is, is an amalgam of real footage (mist scenes) linked together through actors and fictional events. It is not that it is poor filming, it is meant to look that way. It's like they wanted to make a fictional documentary but using tons of actual footage.

We are shown true events, floods, revolts, war, illness, fires snd even meteors falling to earth and the maker has taken all of these events and put them in relation to the bibles end of days.

The images do not automatically correspond in location to what they tell us. It's not meant to be.

What is important is that it is easy yo see why some round think that we are currently at the end of days.

What I find even more astonishing is that so many things that are shown have happened dunce. It's a bit scary. They talk about a virus that was studied in a lab and that got out causing a pandemic. It looked like they were depicting covid in so many ways to the point I thought the film was made in 2023 but set in 2016. Of course not all has come true or not in the amplitude depicted but so many things are similar. No I don't think this is the end. I can see why dome would. I can also see how this is going yo fuel conspiracy theorists (or has). I mean the bad big pharma that already had a vaccine, let loose the illness in conjunction with the health authorities to then vote in and save the day with the vaccine that solidifies their power. This is exactly what CT said about Covid.

In conclusion, it is interesting to watch but do not take things at face value or as truths.

Horribly boring
10 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I do not understand why there are so many good reviews for this film or why it got any rewards.

Yes the acting is very good and the scenery is pretty but that is it.

It is one of the most boring films I have seen. And what a ridiculous story.

If you want to know the whole film without watching it, then read below.

From one day yo the next one guy decides he not only doesn't want to be friends with the guy he has been friends with his whole life. Why because all of a sudden he finds him boring. The same man then threatens to cut off his fingers if the other guy even talks to him. Threat that he then carries out. He then throws his fingers at the guys door. This kills tge guys pet donkey who tries yo eat them. The guy sets the mouse of the finger guy on fire as revenge. And that is basically the whole film.

All characters are simple. There are no great dialogues.

Be patient with it
9 March 2023
Most people giving this a vad review are comparing it to the book. Well o have not read tge book.

Positives: I love the multi lingual side. I speak English, French, German and Italian so I could understand most of it without subtitles.

I love that this is not an American driven drama.

The plot is great Most of the acting is great.

I love how the intensity increases with each episode I love the change of rhythms and povs.

I love the message.

The science

Why I can see that some don't like it (without taking into account the book).

At the begining, it is unclear what this show is about and where it is going.

It is very slow to start off with and if it hadn't been for my mum,who was watching it with me, saying she really liked it, I may not have continued. I'm very glad I did. Each episode gets better. Everything starts coming together.

There are a few scenes that could have been clearer or better written.

After seeing it all, I get why the begining needed to be dliw and disorganised. It was a representation of real life and how we actually would find this stuff out and how we would react.

Be patient with it.

Don't trust the bad reviews.
9 March 2023
So many of the bad reviews didn't give it a chance. They watched 1 rpisode (sometimes not even that).

Sure the first episode did seem a bit underwhelming but if you just give it chance, you will see that it gets much better. The characters develop and becoming likable.

It's a bit seen before but I really enjoy it. Its an easy watch and it's nice yo have a new space show.

There are intrigues and they have yo solve life threatening situations each episode.

The acting is pretty good. The characters are believable. The dialogues could be improved on and some of tge imagery seems not quite realistic.

Surprisingly good
4 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this would be like a a really cheesy Disney style series but it wasn't. I loved it. Binged it. Despite the main characters being adolescents, the acting was top level and the story well written and gripping.

The story happens in modern day London but with a twist. In this world ghosts are frequent and dangerous. An event that nobody knows exactly what caused it is the origin of these visitors from beyond. Kids and young adults are the main ones that have the gifts to see, feel and combat them. Some adults can as well. A girl turns out to have incredible talent. After an issue in her last agency, she goes to London and the only agency to hire her is lockwood and co. The only agency without adult supervision.

The best Scoobydoo series even if not scooby
4 November 2022
This is based on books and so not meant to be scooby doo. Also no dog but it feels like scooby. 4 kids investigating supernatural mysteries.

Even if this is set in (Indonesia I think) and the Fred character is a young Indonesian and the shaggy is a blond sort of good looking white guy, they make a better scooby team than any of the adaptations I've seen (11.2022).

Well filmed, well acted, nice use of the local legends. A change from the US or UK settings.

It's fun, a bit spooky but not super scary.

Any fans of the style should watch this.

I enjoyed it. Each episode got better.

Not sure what else to say.

The Original was not in 95!
28 October 2022
I'm just annoyed because the details are wrong. Yes QL may have been filmed in the early 90s but the machine and Sam's true time was in the future. 2023 I think. Can't remember exactly. We even had an episode where they showed that time. So the timeliness are all wrong. Then Al would no longer have been part of QL project and the new guys would never have heard of him. Why? Because in the last episode of the show Sam chooses to go back to Als first and only real love Beth and tell her to wait for Al as he is not dead as she thinks. We learn in closing scene that she did wait and they are together. This means Al never joined QL.

Lastly Sam is not stuck in the past, he chooses to continue his work. Again last episode.

So yeah I don't know if I will be able to pass on these details and try and enjoy it for what it is or not but these things sure don't help.

It makes no sense
10 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Major soilers ahead so don't read if you don't want to know the ending.

First the positives: i loved the intrigues, couldn't guess what was coming. Couldn't make out who was a bad or good guy or who lying about what and how much.

The acting was good. Characters good me involved in their stories.

Negative: some minor ones first.

She is always running in the middle of the road and there are never any cars.

They have certains in bedroom but don't draw them at night.

Psychologist break confidentiality by talking about what Sophie tells her in a session to her husband and then the private clinic break confidentiality by discussing that she got treatment their with the psychologist. Sophie could sue both.

Big spoiler coming.

Nobodies questions except for her and cop whether it was an accident or not, they just assume. This makes even less sense considering what the husband knows. She had no reason to want to die. You don't steal a ton of money, plan to run away, just to kill yourself instead.

If the guy that saw what happened is the one that told them, then why do none of our mc know?

And now for the really big one. Last chance.

So we finally find out that she did jump but it was no suicide attempt but her faking her death. She wanted yo swim to shore where the storage locker was to then get her uk passport where she is Tess. How absolutely ridiculous that is. There are far more easier ways to fake your death without actually putting your life in danger. It was totally unnecessary.

So while I enjoyed it, then ending annoyed me. Or I could have liked the ending if the beginning had have been different, let's say she had planned a fake death a bit like the one she finally did but on the way she slips on the ice (there would be ice in this scenario) ends up falling from the side of a steep hill and looses her memory that way. She remembers a man and there is talk that she was pushed. That would make more sense.

Spin Me Round (2022)

Spin around and walk away from it.
29 August 2022
There are 2 reasons this has a 2 and not a 1.

1) it's so bad it's funny (from 3/4 of the way in) 2) there is about 15mins that were unexpected and I actually sort of enjoyed.

This film is not worth your time. The first 3/4 is boring. A caricature badly done and leaving you thinking "something must happen soon".

It does finally. But frankly even then it is mildly funny and entertaining but not worth the time spent before.

The characters are bland and overplayed at the same time.

It's not even worth watching for the great Italian scenery as you see very little of it.

Some story lines just finish and you think that there will be something more but no.

Was this a prediction of covid
3 July 2022
When reality nearly caught up with fiction! Frankly I watched this for the first time in 2022. So after Covid. First episode and it could have been the first weeks of Covid. We were very lucky that Covid was not as deadly especially as it acted exactly like the virus in the show and attacks our own immune body.

Better than expected
7 January 2022
Based on quite low rating wasn't expecting it to be very good but actually was quite good. A team of scientists discover the means to travel to parallel universes. The death of the female protagonist pushes her to attempt the journey for herself. She finds her husband who tells her that in his world she is the one that died. She takes him back to her world but things don't turn out the way she hopes.

Disappointing
29 November 2021
The series is amazing. 10 stars. But the film was quite underwhelming.

Arthur is forced to come back and ends up accepting his role. Basically that is the whole film.

The costumes are ridiculous. In the series they were quite of the time or at least as we think of as of the time. In the film they look like something out of Dr Who (fans will know what I mean).

Definitely don't watch if you haven't watched the TV show because you will not understand otherwise.

Visually beautiful but too complicated
27 November 2021
I've not read the books and did try and watch the original film but found it too confusing and not enjoying at all.

Now for this version. It's more understandable but still very complicated. It is very beautiful artistically but honestly even the monuments are complicated and don't feel like they make sense.

The story feels long and you don't feel like you really know where it's going.

I think you need to have read the books to fully enjoy the film.

Just a really bad film
23 November 2021
From the poster I thought, probably not going to be the best film but thought it was going to be about a more fantasy setting. Turns out it's just Wales and nuclear waste has created a dragon.

It's clearly a low budget movie so I can forgive the bad special effects. What I can't is the bad acting and the awful storyline.

I mean you need to take 2 black ops members with you to hunt a creature and you take someone who is in crutches. Plus even if she hadn't been these are the least convincing black ops I have ever seen (well portrayed as I've never seen black ops in real life). I'm all for having women play what would be traditionally male roles but have them look the part. These two look like they couldn't lift a pack of 6 bottles of water.

No this is just a bad bad film. Not even bad it becomes funny. O.

Slow start but needed
9 November 2021
So I stared watching this having no clue about the other shows or really what I was going to get. Basically I liked the poster and the brief description sounded intriguing.

It starts off very slowly and each episode is an hour long but there was still enough to keep me watching even if I was starting to wonder if the story was really going anywhere when it starts to become exciting. Of course there were lots of elements that let you guess at what could possibly be going on but I found myself modifying my ideas every 30 mins and still didn't guess exactly what was going on. And who knows I could still be surprised as I'm not finished. I realised that actually the slow start was needed to really introduce everything and implant small events.

I'm really enjoying it and really recommend it. Don't be put off after the first two episodes, give it a longer try.

Impressive
4 October 2021
Let's face it, most non American or UK films are either rubbish, film d'auteur, not bad but suffer greatly from the lack of a budget, Bollywood (brilliant if you like that style), or some aisan stuff that is quite particular.

It's rare to get a really good none English language sci-fi fantasy film. This really is fabulous. The story line is innovative and well thought through. No major plot holes. Characters that you grow attached to even if I'd say this is one point that could have been better. The special effects were amazing. The only other thing that I felt made it a bit less enjoyable was the very poor dubbing. I can't stand trying to watch with subtitles but the dubbing clearly didn't do a really good job. I don't know if it is because of this that some of the dialogue was a bit flat and basic or if even in Russian (I'm assuming it was russian I didn't check) the dialogue wasn't very good.

Despite this it is still really worth watching.

Not really a show I recommend 5 episodes in. Maybe in a next season
10 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Never watched the original. Finding this show on the boring side. I sort of think it could get better with time. One thing I am having a lot of trouble with is the voice of Ruby the right hand. I don't know if it her real voice or if she is putting on an old persons voice, sorry if it is her natural voice, but got a feeling it is put on as in the first episode she was a client. She was 70 and dying of cancer and wanted to be young again then got to stay on so her voice being old sort of makes sense but I find it very annoying. On top of that I find her role pretty useless. She is just around and from time to time will have a mini conversation that frankly isn't that wow.

Respect (2021)

Not well written. JH just no way near Franklin's talent
7 September 2021
First no disrespect to Jennifer Hudson who is a brilliant singer but she has nothing on Aretha Franklin. She just doesn't do her justice. It does ruin the film a bit. They don't even have the same style of voice.

Then there is the film itself. It's not very well done. We found ourselves at several times wondering what had happened or who a character was, if that guy was the guy from the start. It was a bit choppy. Then it focussed very much on her love life but not on her activist life. This meant I felt I had watched this film before. Unfortunately many of these great singers have the same pasts. Abusive father, then onto abusive husband, alcoholism or drugs. Add general family drama and good music and it could depict any divas bio. Maybe what makes a diva is all the trauma. Maybe they need all the trauma and abuce to be able to sing like they do and let their talent exploits the way it does. . Anyway I thought it was boring very quickly and I would have given it more if Jennifer Hudson had been a better match for the songs.

God or the Devil?
18 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The book of Eli is the story of a man who in a post apocalyptic world is journeying west to bring the Bible, apparently the last Bible on earth as if they could really know that, to a safe place where it would be shared. He fights 10 guys at a time and wins to protect his mission. But of course there is also the bad guy who also wants it to use as a means to control the masses (well what is left of them at least).

I found it repetitive and boring. And sure there is a twist at the end but frankly it just makes it even less believable. . Not only is it ridiculous that one guy is so good at so many things but that the whole story is based on the fact the Bible is meant to be the book that is meant to save the world. I mean what crap. I mean so many wars since religion is a thing (and I mean way before Christianity enterterd the scene) are because of religion. And the Bible has its fair blame. So to think that religion is going to save a world where most don't have clean water, food or shelter is pathetic. In a way the film did get it right, men will always be men, they will use religion to manipulate and control the masses like the bad guy wanted and all that it ends up doing is bringing death and destruction. And our hero who makes it to the end and accomplishes what he thinks is so vital, his precious book is just one of many saved things, something they just put on a shelf and don't give much more regards to than any other item in their collection. It shows in a way how religion and one book can be disproportionately seen and worshipped, and an importance given to itby those who believe but how the rest of the world are much more reasonable. Even within the film look at all the deaths caused by just one book written in a way that is meant to control people.

It's funny, as I'm writing this review I'm thinking two things, 1 maybe the film isn't as bad as I had originally thought. I'm going to change my 4 to a 6 and 2. If I were someone who truly believe in the full Catholic version of hell and the devil and heaven and God, I would be starting to think that Jesus was the son of the Devil not God and the Bible was made by the devil talking to men not God. I mean when you see the destruction, hatred and death caused by religion and the Bible as well as all holy books then I can only think the devil must be very pleased to see so many ending up at his gates because they killed in the name of their religion. Sort of feels like something he would have planned. If you believe in that sort of thing of course.

Not really my cup of tea but not a bad movie
14 August 2021
This film is all about tension, story telling and the intrigue of what stars as very innocent normal seeming situations. It doesn't at all go in the direction you might think.

I didn't really like the slow pace and the very little plot as well as not actually having any real answers at the end but not only can I see that it is well done and is an interesting concept, I would recommend it. I do see why some people loved it. Some people will absolutely hate it and probably not stand more than 15 mins of it but you might surprise yourself.

Typical French TV
12 August 2021
I'm not influenced by the title, I don't expect all sci-fi to be leaders and action. Unfortunately this is typical of French television and the UK side did not help bring it up much apart from a better budget than French TV normally gets.

It is slow, the French actors are bad (French actors for the 90% do not know how to act, fyi I speak fluent French). Even the characters are too basic, they have no depth and their reactions are pathetic. This is a mix of bad writing and bad acting. Not worth watching.

Ginny & Georgia (2021– )

Makes you root for the bad guy
11 August 2021
Ginny & Georgia follows a single mum and her 2 kids Ginny and Austin as they arrive in a new town. Ok like that seems boring but it isn't. Georgia isn't your typical mum. She had Ginny when she was 15. Her parents were drug addicts and her stepfather molested her. She learnt very young that if women don't use their natural attributes against them, men will use you and throw you away. As the show goes on you discover more and more of her life and what she has done to survive and get to where she is today.

Her daughter is quite a bratty 15 year old who despite the fact that she has a cool mum who does everything in her power, and I do mean everything, to make sure she is happy and has Everything she needs, blames her for everything, is mean to her and goes systematically behind her back. Now some would say this is pretty normal teenage behaviour but c'mon that is a bit stereotyped. She also makes these very annoying friends who frankly like her more because she is the different mix race girl than really for her. They are all very self centered and max, her main bestie is hyperactive and has a personality that I thought only existed in stereotypes.

Despite this the show is brilliant at making you root for who is actually the bad guy. And at the same time find the daughter annoying .

The US taking a cheap shop at the royal family
4 August 2021
I have no problem with satire and parody. We made a show with actors that made fun of the royal family and I loved it but this was just bad.

It is disrespectful to have price Philip in it at all as he has passed away,. Then how they portray everone in general is just so far from their real characters that it just isn't funny. The whole point of parody is to take the traits we see in them and exaggerate them. The queen is extraordinary and to make her out to be mean, crazy, spiteful is just wrong. Of course Meghan comes off as all wonderful and normal.of course it's Americans that made the show. It's all basically a show about making the royal family look bad and her look good, or at least a real parody of what they see as a good person. They just make a bit fun of her acting career not being as great as she makes it out to be. But all the others including the children are massacred. It dispecable.

No gladiators but an intelligent woman
2 August 2021
I'm guessing the people who don't like this is because they are men and wanted lots of fighting, wars and gladiator stuff. Well no this is history seen from a strong woman's point of view.

Yes she was real and yes from what I know, all the events portrayed in this show actually did happen. So yes the language is modern, so what? You want them to speak in Latin? I mean it is not in an English speaking time or place so might as well use modern English.

Costumes are pretty accurate. I'm not saying it is a historical documentary but those who are saying that it isn't historically accurate are just upset because of the lack of fighting and lack of real nudity (even if there are a few breasts and bums).

I found the power dynamics very interesting. The way she manipulates the people around her, the way despite people not marrying for love she managed to get her husband soon love with her that he stays by her side through it all. . I like the evolution of her son tybireus. Itjink season 2 will be very exciting.

A typically male film
30 July 2021
Typical male, full of testosterone, lots of shooting, sword fights, explosions, car chases and little to no story. The main plot makes no sense as the bad guy already has an easy solution to his problem. The radical solution he is taking is not because he is fundamentally bad but just because he feels he has no other choice when he had the solution all the time. So really no plot. It was boring. I suspect men will like I, although only the more primitive ones I should add.
