Pinocchio (2022)
Inferior to the original in almost every way
Disney's original Pinocchio was a charming movie. This "remake", one that probably very few people ever wanted, appears to gut it, remove any charm of the original, and instead angrily ask "you remember this scene from the original, right? We expanded it here. Isn't it better? ISN'T IT BETTER?!"
The whole problem starts as quickly as the movie begins. Jiminy Cricket, originally a personification of human conscience, is here played as a mere stereotype and a constant joke. The Blue Fairy, originally a charming 'deus ex machina', here wouldn't be too far away from the main characters of Browning's 1932 "Freaks". Geppetto is here portrayed in a way that may makes you wonder if he is not simply an old man descended into pure insanity. Pinocchio himself, here presented in pure CGI, appears to be as dull as the wood he is supposedly made out of, which is also a trait sadly shared by all the other CGI characters, who all appear to be completely out of place in this movie.
In fact, while watching this movie I repeatedly found myself noticing it doesn't even know what it wants to be, switching from serious moments to joke ones, ending some scenes way too early, constantly making CGI aspects hard to join with real-life ones, and producing a plot that, unless you are already familiar with the story of the novel or Disney's original, has major plot holes. This absurdity goes as far as introducing new characters exclusively to advance the plot faster!
On a positive side, perhaps even the only one that can be presented here, some of the scenarios look pretty, and the costumes of some of the human characters are quaint. They seem to perfectly fit the environment they're put in.
But, ultimately, the movie's most horrible flaw is that it doesn't even have a real ending. Instead, it just ends and the credits role, certainly leaving you certainly more disappointed than when you first started watching it and noticed they were making Jiminy Cricket a complete joke. And so, unless this "remake" was created exclusively as a way to make people feel eager to watch the original once again, it is a pretty bad movie.
What Is a Woman? (2022)
Amazing documentary!
This documentary is absolutely amazing, because it shows people how completely crazy the discussions that we try to have with transcults are. They always try to avoid the question, always victimize themselves, always try to deflect everything, instead of focusing on the problems which are right in front of their eyes - and this documentary puts that truth in front of us, to the point we have to laugh at the absurdity.
Watch it, for your sake and your kids'.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
A super fun movie, with completly unexpected plot twists
This is the story of two people from Iceland who dreamed of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. It could be just yet another "overcoming the odds" story, but instead it is a wonderful experience in which completely unexpected surprises are always around the corner. I laughed, I cried, I was astonished, but... perhaps most of all, I had a really great time with this movie!
It may not change your life, maybe you won't feel like watching it multiple times, but if you have two hours of your life and you want to watch something that will be a ton of fun, pick this movie. You won't be disappointed.
Palavra e Utopia (2000)
When I went to see this movie, I almost fell asleep.
While many may state Manoel de Oliveira to be one of the leading Portuguese directors nowadays, this movie is simply boring.
While it actually manages to tell the story of Father Antonio Vieira, it does such task in a way that most of the audience will be sleeping in their chairs at the end of the session, with such a lack of action and interest.
Most of the movie can actually be simplified in a single phrase, "voices while seeing a certain static scenario", and that's certainly all you can hope to get from this movie.
I have to admit that containing some important Portuguese and Brazilian actors you could be expecting an interesting movie, but their actions in the actual content and story are certainly minimized when you see such an horrible (and boring) content in the screen.
Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Air/Magokoro wo, kimi ni (1997)
An interesting ending to the series
While the actual series seemed to end in a not so interesting way, Evangelion was still waiting for a real ending to its plot. Setting away the psychological ending seen in the series, that's exactly what you can hope to see in this movie, a real Evangelion ending.
Finally, all the events seen in the series reach their most important point, with each of the characters having to face their own wars, this movie actually manages to keep the viewer watching the whole time.
While most of the sequences are a lot more graphical and violent than older generation parents may be wanting their kids to see, they turn out being completely justified and fitting to the plot.
In case you liked the series, you must see both of the movies in order to (finally) understand whole the plot. And trust me, you will like it!
