Penny Crayon (1989–1990)
Classic children's programme
1 July 2010
I remember it being shown on the BBC in the early 90s. The idea of being able to draw things and then make them come to life was something that definitely appealed to me when watching this as a child. It had a great singalong theme tune and Sue Pollard did a great job as the voice of Penny Crayon. Its one of those shows that really takes you back to a period of your childhood it's just a shame we cant time travel back. Penny Crayon was shown around the same time as other classic kids shows like Maid Marian and her merry men and animals of farthing wood, shows that far exceed todays kids shows in quality and storytelling. To use a well worn cliché they don't make them like this anymore.

Hard Target (1993)

a complete guilty pleasure!!
11 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
First things first this film is sheer indulgence a guilty pleasure if you will. Its over the top, shallow and has not exactly a complicated plot but to be fair its a van damme movie what what you expecting? The film is about a group of hunters who play a game with people who have to reach a certain point to get cash if not they die simple as that. When yancy butler's dad is one of those who dies van damme helps her to beat the bad guys and eventually leads to a messy and over the top finale in which several bad guys must get shot 20 times and are still standing. If you are wanting Oscar winning performances and a beautifully acted production you are certainly in the wrong place if you want complete nonsense and van damme kicking all the hell out of everyone (strange for his films i know) then this is your best bet just don't let your high brow film geek friends know you enjoyed it else you will be tossed away faster than a van damme film that goes straight to DVD.

Not as good as it could of been!!
6 July 2007
I watched this film out of intrigue as i had heard a lot about it. Its shot in a documentary style and this does give it a realistic feel. However the film does lack a story and there is only one sympathetic character in the film which is Jenny, who has contracted HIV from Telly(who only sleeps with virgins). Underage sex, drugs and in one scene mindless violence all play are part in these young people lives. The film works as a wake up call and offers an insight into a world which parents fear there children will tred. Perhaps the most shocking is these kids have no regrets and no conscience about what they are doing. The film might of worked if it were a genuine documentary but as a film it lacks heart, energy and real substance despite some good performances. You get a sense this film had to be made but you also feel it could of been done better.

Chasing Amy (1997)

Original, Moving and funny!!
4 July 2007
I loved this film its a rarity i think a romantic film with likable, genuine and honest characters. Kevin Smith has the ability to go from talking in detail about lesbian sex one minute and then genuinely touching dialogue the next. Clerks 2 is still my favourite smith film but this one is not far behind its a story i can relate to and his characters appeal to the everyday guy. If you you want to see a funny, touching, witty and honest film this is it, Kevin Smith does it better than a lot of directors with bigger budgets and stars. Its a shame that such rubbish gets more attention than his fine films. I thoroughly recommend you watch this you wont be disappointed!! Chasing amy 2 anyone?

Oddballs (1984)

Strangest film you will ever see!
17 November 2006
Its hard to understand how this film ever got commissioned as there is not really a plot to it, its poorly acted and a lot of scenes don't really make sense and don't add anything to the already paper thin story. I came across this as a young man and my only real reason for watching it was the very ample breasted nurse Brigid who is at least something to look at as your mind drifts away from the film. The opening scene at least sets you up for the madness which ensues and we see a blind man driving the coach to summer camp and an Indiana Jones lookalike run over. There are no real star names in this it is a severally low budget film. i guess its meant to be a comedy but you will doubtless laugh once. All in all i would not recommend this film but you certainly will never of seen a film like this before.
