Passenger 57 (1992)
Wow. That was bad.
"Everyone in the room is dumber having seen it." -Almost a Billy Madison quote. This movie is dumber than dumb. Three hijackers "stroll away" unnoticed from the airplane? The FBI suddenly taking their orders from Wesley? Wesley runs around in a turtle neck, with a sweater on top, and a leather jacket... while all the people around him are wearing T-shirts!(see carnival scene) Stupid people, doing stupid things, to further the plot of a stupid movie. I could go on for days about the stupidity involved(plane fuselage crumbling while passengers "woot"). Instead, I will go work on my jetski...
Liz looks great and earned the movie an extra point in my book.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Brilliant... duh!
Another brilliant movie from the best (English speaking) director of our time... If you pay attention to movies, you know the quality of a movie is directly related to the Director. Ever wonder why your favorite actor is great in one movie, then terrible in the next? It's the Director. Directors are responsible for every aspect of the movie. Movie good. Director good. Movie bad. Director bad.
Now that we have that clear, let's move to the crux of my hypothesis: Wes Anderson is the best Director in Hollywood. As supporting evidence, I put forth: 1. Rushmore 2. The Royal Tenenbaums 3. The Life Aquatic.
I feel truly honored and appreciative to have viewed these movies in my lifetime. Thank you Wes, and everyone else involved in any/all of these great films.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Only the reviews are Haunting me...
I had to give this film a 2. After reading these insane reviews, I almost gave it a 'one'. Only because it was shot it in such a wonderful location (Wyoming) did it earn another point. Otherwise, this is easily recognizable trash for the feeble minded. Character development rivals that of Ang's other films... THE HULK jumps to mind. (I liked the bottom left frame of The Hulk the best- but I haven't watched the three others yet). Otherwise, I believe many females are 'haunted' by the thought- this could happen to their man! As for the 1500 or so 'haunted' male reviewers... can you guess who they 'are'? I believe 'Jay and Silent Bob' have a scene or two dedicated to them. As a straight male, I found the movie ANYTHING but haunting. Boring? Yes. Lacking Dialogue? Yes. These long silent, loving moments give us time to be... Haunted? The bottom line (no pun intended) is that this director doesn't speak English, and has resorted to the 'haunting silence of love' to make a big budget movie that caters to a specific audience that hasn't been fed in a decade or more (we miss Harry Hamlin?) Good thing Jason (Holloween fame) didn't like boys... all these reviewers would have to find a new adjective. Gaysmerizing should do it.
