Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Only worth 30mins watching
I've never read the book and not about to, but the movie was poor presented (except Bautista's acting was pretty good). The first 30 mins is very interesting and promissing, but well... M. NightS is still M. NightS. He have lost his spirit for a long time.
Some how I'm not sure how should I feel about the movie from the middle. Confuse? Thrill? Scare? Curious? Sad?... None of them. The ending of this movie is one of worst ending I ever seen. It has no meaning but some anger showing from a social problem victim, which is very hard to empathize when he was put in a savier's position.
It's been a long time since I watched a movie and have no clue wth I was watching. Thankyou Mr Shyamalan.
Vi (2021)
Nothing there
If you don't have any story, your metaphor is just a decoration on a souless body. This is an example of why most of DP shouldn't (and can't) write screenplay (Zack Snyder is the most typical example). So sad that this movie can destroy many of Vienamese viewer's faith on him.
However, I love the cinematography in this movie, not because it's excellent, just because most of Vietnamese market movies doesn't have cinematography at all. The sound design is good tho.
Acting was acceptable, considering they are not professional.
The only thing missing here is story, the biggest weakness of Vietnamese movies.
The House (2022)
Unusual, but worth watching!
Since 2019, I have feel tired with so many movies which try to convey big-deep-socialist message, but represent in a poor-thin-cliché way. So for me, this movie is like water for the guy.who lost in the desert and just ate a bunch of dry meat.
This movie has a charming way to tell a story, no rush, no directly. It keeps me to be curious and confuse about it, time by time. Even the way it reveal the secret is not really clearly. There is always something behind what we see. I consider it a success.
More than that, the message of every story was sent in a very lightly way. It doesn't punch a lesson on my face. And the lesson itself is really simple, hiding in a simple metaphor. We just need to focus a few second to understand it. It feels like a Wes Anderson movie.
Third, the movie has full kind of emotion. Scary, funny, spooky, stressful,... and relief. But strangely, it is not a chaos party of emotion like WW1984. Every piece of emotion was.in their right place, in a harmonious and perfect way.
The last, the art style looks weird (I have been familiar with Tim Burton and Wes Anderson art style). This is the first time I see some thing like this.
In short, this.movie is worth watching.
