The Outrider (2019)
Just...why?
Making a movie is not easy. It should be noted that the process of making a feature film is not as easy as it sounds, let alone making a good film. I always try to take it easy with what seems to be a first-time production because the people who make these type of movies still have a lot to learn. However, this movie...I don't even know what to say. It's bad, it's very bad on various levels, to the point that is ironically enjoyable as a "so bad it's good" movie. The acting is like out of a middle school drama class, the directing is very dull and boring, the editing is terrible and the cinematography is very amateur. The worst part of the movie in my opinion, is the sound. The audio is so bad I couldn't even believe it, did the people who make this couldn't use a boom-mic or at least re-dub the lines in post production? The music is also really over-the top and doesn't fit with the tone the movie was going for. There are scenes that really could've benefitted from having a silent moment but instead they play this really loud score that sounds so very generic and like something we've heard a million times before. After seeing this movie and see its incompetence I really have to ask: Why? Why make this? If you can't do something right, don't do it.
Now I feel like I have to adress something on this very review page, the fake reviews. This review section for The Outrider is filled with fake reviews that rate this movie as good or even great. They are all fake, do not believe them. To the filmmakers of this movie: if you don't have faith in your final product, don't release it and post fake reviews, it really makes it worse.

Upgrade (2018)
Better than anyone expected
I'm going to be honest I didn't hear from this movie until it came out, which is just bad marketing. However, this movie came out of nowhere to become probably one of the best of the year and I feel like no one is talking about it. This movie is the definition of taking an old premise to the next level, an "Upgrade" if you will. It's the typical revenge movie plot in the veins of Death Wish or Robocop but then takes it to another level by setting it in a not too distant future and adds existensial themes about what is technology and what is human is to make this movie a really good time. The acting is good, better than expected even. The movie is shot extrememly well and makes it seem like it had a bigger budget than the one it actually had, the action is masterful, energetic and bloody, has really innovative camera techniques. The main character is likable and the main villian is memorable, if I had a problem with the movie it would be that while the main villian is memorable, his henchman really is not. He's not as fun as the movie thinks he is. In the end this movie is really good and one of the most overlooked and underrated of the past five years or so, if you have a chance go watch it, it's definitely worth your time.
