Wow-- this is bad.
26 July 2007
So I just went to go see an advance screening of this movie and I don't know why the studio would do such a thing-- the audience was constantly laughing and this is no comedy. Usually screenings I've seen have been of fantastic movies (Wedding Crashers, Hairspray) and I'm telling everyone I know to go see it. Also, I've never seen such a general consensus of "WOW, what were they thinking?" at the end of a movie. I cannot WAIT to read the reviews on this! It's going to be slaughtered by the press.

Despite Ms. Lohan's troubles, I do think she is talented and, if only for her sake, I was hoping this would be a good film. I like her, and I love movies and tend to see the good in them, but this does not do enough redeeming. It does have a promising premise, but it is done all wrong. The parts that need build-up have none and time is wasted on other pointless scenes. Very graphic film as well-- definitely not an R that any child should be seeing.

Seriously, this isn't even a case of "so bad it's good". It's just bad.

Save yourself the $10 movie fare on this one-- and go see "1408" for a real psychological thriller. This'll be on DVD before you know it anyway.

Hairspray (2007)

Fantastic!
16 July 2007
I just came from a sneak preview of this movie and was enchanted. I was familiar with parts of the story line and some of the main characters, but had never seen the stage show or previous film, so I'm unable to comment for those who have. Bottomline: I just thought this was wonderful.

Very much a feel-good film, with a great (and mostly well-known) cast, it is also surprisingly funny! There were many witty moments as well as quite a few laugh out loud lines and I believe the roles were well cast. The leads were a delight and they were supported by a strong cast overall, in acting, singing and dancing. I was not bored for even one minute of this exciting movie; in fact, I had a smile on my face throughout most of it to boot.

I am a huge musical nut, but I went with a friend of mine who is admittedly not a big fan of movie musicals and she laughed and loved it right along with me.

A nice balance to the big action movies (I did like Transfomers :)) dominating summer '07. Easily one of my favorite movies of late-- go see it!

Click (2006)

This movie blindsides you with how touching it is
23 June 2006
I was initially interested in this movie as a longtime supporter of Adam Sandler (also Kate Beckinsale) and because it seemed good for a few mindless laughs.

Instead, "Click" is heartwarming, touching and makes you think of how precious life is, all without preaching. I actually cried more than once and not just for the usual reasons. Additionally, Sandler and Beckinsale surprisingly have amazing chemistry together and with their on screen 'children'/Sandler's on screen parents. It wasn't hard to buy them as a modern family who cares very deeply for one another, but is faced with the everyday craziness of living in the 21st century. It does have the funny moments the trailer shows, but it is so much more than that and a movie that I truly enjoyed.

Go see 'Click'.

Reunion (2005–2006)

I loved it!
16 September 2005
I'm usually not too into a specific show (save for The O.C. & Desperate Housewives...hey, I am 20!), but, no kidding, after one episode of Reunion I was hooked.

I can't even say how bummed I was that it's time-slot conflicted with Bush's speech last night because I was really looking forward to the 1987 episode, which will now air next Thursday. Again, that conflict was disadvantageous because, being a new show, it needs to build up a following and having the second episode pushed back a week kills some momentum.

That said, TV doesn't always have to be Emmy worthy to be enjoyable. I don't expect Reunion to take home any prizes, but I do expect it will be able to capture my attention all season. Ever watch the first few episodes of a beloved show years later? Sometimes you wonder how you ever got hooked. Character building takes some time.

The one episode for each year idea is wonderful, in my opinion. The only other show I can recall doing something similar is 24, with each episode being an hour...and having an eventful year is more realistic than a day that eventful! Please give this show a shot. Relax about art form...it's just TV!

Wonderful!
7 July 2005
I will not bother with a synopsis, but I just saw a sneak preview of this movie tonight and had to write how much I loved it.

Being a huge fan of both Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams might make me more partial to have chosen to see it originally, but it was both sweet and laugh out loud hilarious. In the vein of Old School, Anchorman & Starsky & Hutch, only with romance and quirky families thrown in to the mix. I think the audience for Wedding Crashers has the potential to be broader for that very reason. Vaughn and Wilson have a chemistry as lifelong friends, as do Wilson and McAdams as love interests. Supporting character roles were well cast and provided great framework.

See it on the 15th!
