The Lazarus Project (2022)
Don't look back
This show has brought some brilliant, original ideas to the time travel genre.
Honestly some very clever writing with this script and I am eagerly awaiting season two.
The cast all play their roles perfectly and I would say this is the best British sci-fi series I have ever seen.
Man vs Bee (2022)
Unforgivable
This was originally written for the comedian James Acaster but Rowan Atkinson cheated him out of the role by sabotaging his audition.
And stole his girlfriend too.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
You know that tingling feeling?
You know that rare tingling feeling you get when something you hear or watch becomes a part of you emotionally?
Well this season provided plenty of that and then turned it up to 011 in this last episode! .
Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015)
Love people, use things.
A short film that consists of ideas I am already familiar with but in no way am I living by.
I guess for me it came at the right time and offered a hopeful nudge in the right direction.
Utopia (2020)
Improves upon the original
The original ch4 series has been among my favourite television shows of all time, its cinematography alone takes joint first place alongside the Hannibal series and its originality unrivaled at that time...
We now continue the journey with "this" utopias often chilling and shadowy pages, but with just enough dark humour to stop you slinking into those shadows completely...
The original writer Dennis Kelly was honored to gift Gillian Flynn and David Fincher his manuscript and it is clear from the offset that he made the right choice.
I was hesitant and nervous about the way this American version would play out but not only did Flynn and Fincher have the skills and talent to run with it, they have also been inspired by its essence.... An awesome reimagining of a cult classic that not only honours the source material but improves in places upon it.
Fans of that original show will be treated to a mixture of nostalgic tingles as well as new paths that cut through an often terrifying maze and descends deep into the rabbit hole.
The original does keep its crown in place but now Gillian Flynn has woven one of her own with thorny undergrowth... She has a real talent for the darker humour (worryingly so!) as well the world and character building too.
The acting is top jotch all round too, Becky is a clear improvement over the ch4 version and Dr. Kevin Christie ( John Cusak) is unsurprisingly flawless as always but its Arby who takes the spotlight here, nailing his scenes with what I can only describe as surprisingly brutal efficiency...
I only have one worry for this show after season one..... That it might share the fate of its mother egg and not get the chance to conclude its story.... This MUST not happen!
Utopia: Just a Fanboy (2020)
Curiouser and Curiouser
After an excellent first episode we now continue the journey into this UTOPIAS often chilling and shadowy pages but with just enough dark humour to stop you slinking into those shadows completely...
The full reasons why Dennis Kelly was honored to gift Gillian Flynn and David Fincher his manuscript clearly manifested themselves over these first two episodes.
Not only do they have the skills and talent to run with it, but have also been inspired by its essence.... Awesome.
Extra points for this episode from me too due to the perfectly executed use of one of my all time favourite songs by the lady Wolfe herself.... 11/10
Utopia: Life Begins (2020)
Down the rabbit hole
An excellent start to this reimagining of the original masterpiece that will offer nostalgic spine tingles to its fans while standing very much on its own feet.
Offering its own unique creativity and opting for a different path through the maze whilst the core brilliance shines through.
After Life (2019)
Poor comedy and weak drama
A poorly handled stereotype of mental health and repetitive attempt at drama combined with weak humour.
By season two this quickly became a cringey and annoying moan fest that narcissistically centered on Ricky to a point that destroyed any of the underlying message it had been trying to faintly hold onto.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Exceptional
If your going to make a silent movie with a storyline that primarily centers around noise as a theme then you better get every single sound right in the film....
And they do!
And the acting is perfect in this film too... The on screen chemistry between John Krasinski and Emily Blunt is perfect...and all the family including the children are three dimensional characters with depth which is quite a feat given the silent nature of the film.
Don't want to give to much away but highly recommend... Its tense, the monsters are cool, the locations and sets are fitting and I can't wait for the sequel.
