The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Simply Sublime
Not too many spoilers here but checked spoiler-alert anyhow. Episode 3 was an unexpected beautiful stand-alone tender episode. Bring your tissues. People will always long for love and companionship, even as the world falls apart around them...even during a fungal-zombie apocalypse I would assume. Kudos to the casting director. Nick Offerman was perfect as Doomsday-prepper Bill. Murray Bartlett did such an excellent job playing Frank. Their initial encounter was nothing like I expected and watching their relationship evolve was a beautiful thing to behold. Yes, I'm being sappy but I'm still thinking about this episode 4 days after viewing it. I see the small-minded homophobes are blasting the episode on social media (would you expect anything less from them???) so unless you are a narrow-minded evangelical homophobe, this episode is a not-miss. Linda Ronstadt fans will be pleasantly surprised as well.
Black Summer (2019)
One of the best of zombie genre series
Black Summer is what FTWD could have been. This series is nothing like Z Nation thankfully even though producer is same. I imagine when a society has rapidly collapsed, events would unfold as portrayed in this series. Great character study in how our humanity can rapidly devolve into pure survival mode as we watch life as we know it end. We are the most violent animal on the planet after all.
Also, if you are prone to anxiety, BEWARE...I tried to binge but had to take a lot of breaks between episodes 😂😂😂
BuzzFeed Unsolved: True Crime (2016)
True crime analysis w/a juvenile, twisted touch of humor
I love the fact that the absurdity of life and death is a prevalent theme. Episodes are not too long. And you probably haven't heard of some of the cases. The show pairs well with alcohol.
This show isn't for everyone: it appears you either love it or hate it based on the sample of reviews.
