Life is no picnic
9 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The two main characters of the movie are a husband and his wife. The focus is on the husband as an active initiator of events. He is the breadwinner in the family. He takes care of his sick wife although he is sick too. He handles the family issues. The wife takes the passive role as she is sick throughout the whole movie, yet her emotional reactions and interactions with her husband have a great influence on understanding the character of her husband.

He is the type of guy who does things and does not speak or brag. His daughter who cannot take care of her sick mother blames him and he does not defend himself. He gets his frustrations out through indulging into fantasies about a younger employee. His passion for his job does not go away after his wife dies and I think that means he still alive inside despite all what he went through.

She is sick and feels that she is unwanted. She has a very special bond with her dog because it is the one which gives her unconditional love. She has a picture of the dog wherever she goes. She feels that she is a burden on her husband. It is too difficult to feel helpless. She is an example of how fate can destroy humans' life with no obvious reason. When her husband asked the doctor why the tumour is back again, the doctor said it is like birth as science cannot identify the reason.

Life goes on till she dies. She gets the peace she needs and he gets his freedom. The movie is an example of how different people react when faced with hardships. The lead actor and actress were really good. I enjoyed my time and could relate to every character in the movie.

A play in disguise
25 September 2019
It is a play disguised as a movie. Too much stress on the dialogue. I felt bored since the early beginnings, but I kept watching till the end only for the sake of Ralph Fiennes.

Lynn nailed it!
5 August 2019
Most of the cast did a good job. But, Lynn Mancinelli really depicted how shattered a victim could be. She radiated pain and rage. Jon McCormick and Emrhys Cooper were great too. The scenario was able to keep my tuned throughout the whole movie.
