Save Yourself! Avoid at All Cost!!
17 April 2024
This was literally the single worst piece of film that I've ever watched and I've seen Whoopi Goldberg's The Telephone and Jack Nicholson's The Trip.

The person who released this had to have suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head. I wrote short stories in fifth grade with more character development and realism.

The story is disjointed, unrealistic, overly dramatic... it's like a fever dream from a drug addled mind attempting to get sober the hard way.

Save yourself, save your sanity, save your intellect and deductive reasoning skills. Run away. I wouldn't even show this to a cinema class in an attempt to teach them literally everything not to do.... it would be cruel and unusual, needlessly.

Star Trek: Enterprise: Cogenitor (2003)
Season 2, Episode 22

Heartbreaking
29 August 2023
This episode is heartbreaking and positively perfect in every conceivable way. The acting, the writing, the direction, cinematography, the pacing... perfection, just perfection. LaVar Burton's contribution is felt heavily, though pales in comparison to Connor Trinneer's work. He has me believing it wholeheartedly... I felt my heart ache, and watched his heart break. I simply cannot lay enough praise at the feet of this episode. I feel the this episode stands up with the very best of the very very best in what Star Trek has to offer. This is the epitome of storytelling at its finest, and I don't feel it has ever been paid the respect it is due.

Monsters (2010)
Ummm, Duh.
26 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was entertained by the film. It held my interest, most of the time. It's a very round-about way of something that I can say far more succinctly: The "monsters" are Americans. There, now I've saved you a couple of hours of your life. Rather than watch the film, perhaps you could do something that would improve the life of someone you know, or better yet, someone you don't know. Enrich the life of a less fortunate... no? Oh, that's right, we're Americans, hahaha. I would've made the same sweeping commentary about Christianity, personally, but America has a couple bloodied noses overdue, as well. At any rate, that was what I walked away with, from this film, and I still rather enjoyed it.

Were I able to award more than ten-for-ten...
6 July 2014
...seriously, unquestionably, undoubtedly, irrefutably, unequivocally, and in all other ways!! the *SINGLE* most impactful, memorable, and original film (for me) that I can recall seeing filmed within my lifetime.

From story to location, from costuming to set decorations this movie made the sort of impact on me, personally, that will stay with me for the remainder of my time in this world.

I could not have asked for more... from the "how did they," to the "why did she," to the "insert your own meaning here," this movie was a masterful turn of pure genius, electrified.

The rest of my life... I mean that. I'll remember it always, and look forward to many, many viewings in the future... no doubt finding onionskin after layered onionskin of new substance and context to decipher and attribute upon each and every reviewing.

Joyful Noise (2012)

It's Contrived, but Feels Good All the Same
30 December 2012
My review of the Joyful Noise Movie: Every single solitary, gimmicky, tired, old, wore-out, overdone movie cliché that's ever been used in any contrived, family-targeted movie in the history of cinema... and yet, the music was solid, the characters given some genuinely funny material to work with, and therefore there are worse ways to spend 90 minutes of your life. It was fantastic to hear new material from one of my favorite vocalists and lyricists, Dolly Parton... but it was worth the ticket price alone, to see Dolly "poppin' and lockin' for Jesus!"

...and I am personally convinced, beyond the shadow of any doubt, that Dolly Parton was manufactured by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

lazy / conveniently-chosen cinematography genre that's, to me, most unforgivable of all… very, very poor storytelling
21 October 2012
I am never giving this franchise another dime, nor another minute of my life; mark my words, so long as I live. That's four movies, at approximately two hours per film, twelve opening-weekend cinema passes at three tickets per release… all for what?? There's no bigger-picture, here! There's no larger story being told… there *IS* no story to this story!

The writers are doing nothing more than frantically clamoring to try and keep the series going for just one-more-year. Short pay-off, because they realize they've got NOTHING of substance. Like "Lost," in it's final season, you're left holding the bag, realizing it was all for nothing: the writers had sh*t, and so that is what they gave you… sh*t.

Me? I'm embarrassed I stayed this long. This is my stop, this is where I get off.

Groundhog Day (1993)
10/10
...quietly epic.
12 January 2012
~  ~  hooray!    A Bill Murray morality-play, showcased within the established parameters of a temporal causality loop, with subtly-implied cinematic deification, and an instant familiarity of the monotonously dreary vacuum that makes up Smallville, America's tedium....

while, enduring the obsessively-compulsive banging of a one-note reality, the viewer finds especially melodic symphonies rising from the comedic accompaniment - which, by comparison,  helps me to understand why 'change,' (good or bad)  can often be perceived as divine.

OH!     ...AND THERE'S AN ENORMOUS GROUNDHOG TOO!!!

((adore this film))

Very Enjoyable (ermm, so says me)
4 January 2012
Sam, Tyler & I just finished watching "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."

It is the 2010 version of this movie with Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce.

To be perfectly honest, I was not expecting much from this film.

...especially ( especially!) after watching the opening sequence, which was far too violent, by my estimation.

That is to say, I do not have a problem with movies that are extremely violent in nature; when priorly, I've foreknowledge this is the type of film genre I am attending...

After viewing the opening and closing sequences, I stand by this opinion. To me, the movie's story is rich enough on its own without having to attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator of genre-hopping-ticket-sales.

Oddly enough, I was extremely surprised to log onto the IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/) And learn that my estimation of this film was so far off the general public's opinion.

Usually, I am able to guess-timate mass ticket appeal of a given film; however, having genuinely enjoyed the movie, I was way off-base. According to the public ranking on IMDb.com, the movie was only awarded 5 stars, out of 10 when I, myself, would have approximates a mass public opinion in the proximity of 6.5 to seven.

Anyway, if you enjoy suspense and are able to avert your eyes during two especially gory scenes, you will find this movie very appealing.

The Best Movie I've Seen In Ten Years
31 July 2004
Here it is: everyone's got an opinion. I'm a movie junkie with ties to madness. I seriously enjoy the old suspense movies of the Hollywood Golden Age.

This movie is comparable to something Hitchcock would make if he were alive today. Seriously. The SINGLE BEST movie I've seen in a decade. If you understand what M. Night is doing and look at it from the cinematographer's and director's point of view, and know that you are simply a passanger on their preconceived ride, (as Hitchcock believed) then you'll truly enjoy this masterpiece of cinema.

If you don't care for that type of genre, then of course, you won't enjoy any of the old Hollywood Legend movies, and you won't enjoy this one.

SAVE YOURSELF!
30 June 2004
Please! No spoilers, no explanations necessary... save yourself! Run as fast as you can BEFORE buying a ticket to this hokey, cliché'-ridden disaster of a drama-fest way-off-target movie... Yeah. It's that freakin' awful. One lackluster scene after another. The bad guy? An overweight soggy-diaper of a science miss. Did this guy say ONE thing that was scientifically accurate? Did ANYONE making this film take a physics class??! What the h-ll's the matter with people today? Just because you drop some shiny dimes on a flick, it's automatically good??! This was worse than some of the third rate 1950s B-movies my Grandmother forced me to sit through in my youth! Second rate script, second rate acting... and LORD someone PLEASE help these people understand a thing or two about thermodynamics, or at the very least a junior high school level earth science class! Yikes. Oh, and if you can last though the hokey 'why-me' stuff, then you really get to enjoy the powerful love subplot. *Sigh* Save yourselfs... do not approach this movie at all costs... farewell...

True Art.
17 February 2002
One of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching stories I've ever had the pleasure of coming across. The actors were phenomenal, and extremely believable. Having grown up in a small town the the South, myself, I could identify many characters that are true to life, and haven't changed even to this day. This book and film are must haves, for anyone who respects the art of storytelling, and the now LOST art of movie making.

Most entertaining, where else can you see Bing, Frank, Princess Grace and Louis Armstrong in one place?
11 February 2001
Most entertaining, where else can you see Bing, Frank, Princess Grace and Louis Armstrong in one place? This is a comedy/musical/romance that from start to finish makes me wonder why days can't be today as they were then. They aren't referred to as 'the good old days' for nothing. Buy the soundtrack too, it's worth EVERY penny.
