Fatal Attraction (2023)
Feels Cold
I am a huge fan of the original movie with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas and was so excited to hear about this show. Overall, I feel like it was a major letdown, mostly because so much of the show revolves around the present day.
I'm not super crazy about the cast and it seems that most of them are lacking the chemistry of the film. My least favorite character was the adult Ellen but more on that later.
Joshua Jackson didn't have the same charisma of Michael Douglas and his take on Dan Gallagher came across as dark and dull and predictable so when he cheats, it doesn't seem as out of character.
I think Lizzy Caplin did a good job making Alex Forest crazy and creepy and I would have liked to have seen more of her character. I'm glad we got to see more of Alex's backstory but I would have loved to see even more. She is hands down the most fascinating character of the series.
I liked the detective helping Dan after he is released and found him to add some much needed light to the series.
I couldn't understand why so much time was spent on adult Ellen because she seemed an inconsequential character and lacked any depth at all. In the final moments we see why so much time was devoted to her and we learn how Dan's behavior truly impacted her. I thought that was a nice twist and wonder if it will lead to a season 2.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (2023)
Such a feel good show
I have only seen the first 2 episodes but I love it so far!! I read one review where someone wrote that it's not realistic but why would anyone want it to be? In a world of depressing news, this show gives a brief reprieve from everyday life. One aspect that isn't realistic and I'm so happy about is that the cast isn't all white people.
The music is fun and uplifting and makes me want to dance. I love seeing high school life through a lens of innocence and simplicity although mixed with some modern day issues.
I think the young actors do a great job and this show embodies the fun and nostalgia of Grease. I can't wait to see more episodes!!
Will Trent (2023)
Horrible casting
I am a huge fan of the books by Karin Slaughter and this series does not feel at all like the books. I think the actors cast are all wrong the characters, especially Will Trent. He is described in the books as being very tall with sandy blonde hair but more importantly, I don't feel like the actor portraying him exudes Will Trent's social awkwardness. The other horrible castings are of Amanda and Angie. In the books, Angie is very rough around the edges and tough and Amanda is an older lady who comes across as cold and rarely refers to Will as her best agent.
While Will does offer some rare moments of comedic relief in the books with his social awkwardness, the books are very dark and I think this show would be much better on a streaming service or HBO.
As much as I love the books and Karin Slaughter, I really doubt I will stick with this series because it feels like a betrayal to the books.
Night Sky (2022)
Character driven
I loved season 1 of this show. It's not an action series but is more character driven. I've seen some people are frustrated by the slower pace but I loved it because it allowed more character development. I especially loved that the 2 main characters are an older couple in their 70's which is something we don't see much of.
I'm very disappointed to read that the show will not be renewed for a second season as I really loved the Yorks as well as Jude and was excited to learn more about the cult, guardians and the "abandoned" planet.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Not sure what to make of this
I think Kristen Bell is terrific in this. In fact, I would say she is one of the few bright spots in this series. I just found it far fetched and not the type of show I would watch.
And Just Like That... (2021)
A Sad Continuation
I've only seen the first 2 episodes so far and while it's not terrible, it's definitely not great either. It feels tired and sad and like that guest who has worn out their welcome.
I loved the original show and the first film but it really should have ended there because now I feel like I am watching a friend die. It's just not the same, which I suppose it's not meant to be, but it's impossible not to compare.
I truly miss Samantha as she and Miranda were my absolute favorites. I also don't buy the reason why she is no longer a part of the group. The character would not be so petty and I think they have done her a real disservice.
I haven't decided whether I will keep watching or not but so far, it doesn't seem like there is much worth tuning in for.
I Am the Night (2019)
Completely Fabricated
I sort of expected this to be more factual but it was 90% made up. George Hodel didn't even live in LA during this time and never met Fauna Hodel. The story of the Hodel family is very fascinating and strange but don't look to this series for any of that story.
Maid (2021)
Way too long
I honestly think this series would have been better at 6-8 episodes, max. It really drug on.
Also, I found Alex to be very unlikable. She comes across as though she is the only person who can make a mistake. She is cold and unforgiving to the men in her life, even when they have turned themselves around and made amends. She refuses to accept help from those closest to her but she will ask her a woman whom she cleans for to let her live in her house.
I See You (2019)
Lots of surprises
This is so much better than I expected. There were so many twists that I never saw coming. Just be sure to pay attention, otherwise you might miss an important nugget.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
A bloated mess
I think there is way too much in this film and it detracts from the main theme which is to be careful what you wish for. There are so many scenes that are completely unnecessary. Even the character of Max Lord isn't needed. I think just having Cheetah as the main villain would have been more than enough. I love Gal Gadot and Chris Pine together so that was a plus.
Tiny Pretty Things (2020)
All over the place
This show is a mess. The storylines don't make any sense and are all over the place. There is no continuity or strength of characters. There are way too many gratuitous sex scenes that are completely unnecessary and add nothing to story. The dancing is somewhat pretty and a couple of the actors are interesting but aside from that, I would say this is crap.
The Comey Rule (2020)
Brought back bad memories of 2016
The performances by the actors, especially the man who plays Donald Trump are excellent. James Comey comes across as a do-gooder and completely inept. I really enjoyed seeing the events from 2016-2017 play out from an insider perspective. Also, the pacing of the series is great, fast enough that it's not boring but not so fast that important details are skipped.
Cobra Kai (2018)
William Zabka's Johnny is the star of this show
The show is so much better than I expected. I think that is mostly due to the character of Johnny and his portrayal by William Zabka. He is both hilarious and serious, sometimes concurrently. It's so fascinating to see his side of things and how he ended up as he did. I am totally rooting for him and without him, I don't think the show would be worth watching.
The Untold History of the United States (2012)
Very interesting but also very biased
I have really enjoyed much of Oliver Stone's films and overall, I enjoyed this. There was a lot of information presented that was new to me and I can tell it's well researched. My main issue was how biased this documentary is. Stone is so obvious is his dislike of George W Bush that he inserts either his photo or a comment when other negative information is being presented. He somehow links Bush to just about every evil thing. Furthermore, he openly praises the communists including Stalin while slamming pretty much every American president. At many points, it felt more like a scathing review of Americans as opposed to a neutral, fact based documentary.
Perry Mason (2020)
Shockingly Good!!
I have only seen bits and pieces of the original Perry Mason but I can tell this new version is much less tame. I am so impressed with all the actors and actresses in this show. I also really liked the setting of LA in the early 1930's.
There are a lot of characters and a lot of details and layers but I never felt the plot was lost in it all.
This show is so dark and gritty and positivity engrossing. I love it!!!
House at the End of the Street (2012)
Entertaining but some loose ends
I actually enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would. I had never heard of this and came across it on Netflix. Jennifer Lawrence is great, as always.
What I don't understand is why it was necessary for Max to have a "Carrie-Anne". I still really liked the twist and overall thought it was a good movie.
The Man in the High Castle: Fire from the Gods (2019)
Not the ending this series deserves
I have loved this entire series until the last few minutes of the final episode. I would have liked to have seen the American flag fly because that more than anything would have looked like a victory. The other thing I wanted to see was a redemption of John Smith. I felt that throughout the series he was sort of an anti-hero and very worthy of an aha moment. I felt like both his and Kido's characters were sort of squandered in the end.
I also don't get the whole portal thing at the end. There were way too many unanswered questions the ending just felt wrong and not true to the series as a whole.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Excellent film!!
I loved this movie. It has big shoes to fill being not just a sequel but an adaptation of a really good book. It was also impressive because it managed to successfully reconcile the difference between the book, The Shining and the film and stay true to both.
The sets for the Overlook Hotel were meticulously reconstructed and characters recast from the original film were portrayed in such a way that one would think it was the original actor starring in Doctor Sleep.
I really liked the young actress that plays Abra as well as Ewan McGregor and Rachel Ferguson as Danny and Rose the Hat.
Great film and I can't wait to see it again.
The Box (2009)
All over the place
I didn't enjoy this film because it was all over the place and ridiculous.
