The Beekeeper (2024)
Awesome Bee movie
A a really, really fun film. What I love about The Beekeeper is it feels like a genuine classic action b-movie. The odd dialogue and clunky changes in tone never feel forced or like satire of classic action b-movies. Instead it's a genuinely idiosyncratic movie that provides possibly unintentional comedy along with some great action scenes.
I had so much fun watching this and will definitely be buying the DVD when it's out. The perfect movie to watch with a few beers. Some classic clunky social commentary just like many of the second tier action movies of the 80s and 90s. Some fantastic villains too although I would have loved to have seen much more of at least two of them.
Good cast! Josh Hutcherson is great in this whilst Jeremy Irons and Minnie Driver are essentially pointless but add character to this strange but highly enjoyable movie.
Hamburger: The Motion Picture (1986)
One of the all time classics
They don't make them like this anymore. If you enjoy movies like Police Academy, Hot Dog the Movie and Screwballs you're in for an absolute treat. Like a burger from your favourite franchise you know what to expect. Nerds, toilet humour sex jokes and a generous portion of partial female nudity. A classic of the genre with a really original premise but familiar formula. We're never going to get any more films like this so dig in and enjoy these precious artefacts of the golden age of high school comedy.
Brutus the Barber Beefcake (1988)
90 minutes of pure Barbermania
If, like me, your favourite wrestler is Ed Leslie then you are in for the ultimate cut. For me this represents some of the greatest years of Ed's career, fighting alongside future legends such as Virgil and against such vilians as the dastardly Greg "the hammer" Valentine. From start to finish a masterclass in wrestling with many matches including Ed's famous sleeper move as well punches and even headlocks. They don't make them like this anymore!
The Monster Club (1981)
Fangs for the Memory
This movie has Vincent Price and UB40; the greatest rock band in the world. Time does stand still for much of the movie and you'll need a good bottle of Sherry to get to the end.
Unfortunately there's no nudity at all and most of the special effects are just rubber masks but if you're looking for a night of heavy drinking tedium this movie provides The perfect wallpaper. The main theme tune is excellent though and you get to hear it twice and there's John Carridine too.
