Only one sceen worth watching
7 May 2024
There is only one scene for which this movie is worth watching, and that is the scene when Openheimer sells his vision for the Manhattan Project to the general. The rest, especially all the politics and the personal rivalry, seemed commonplace and boring. I think it's a miss that they did not include more of Richard Feynman in the movie, who is one of the most beloved physicists of all time. Generations of kids have learned physics from his famous lectures. Now that I think of it, physics was probably not a favorite subject of the director in school. The movie is almost all about politics that you see every day in the workplace. Overall, it feels a bit too pretentious to the point of being childish. But they seen I mentioned above is worth watching. It might inspire some people.

A bit surreal comedy

Contrasts and surprises in many layers. Lots of very good acting especially by Gibson and the child actor Hersfield. Amazing music. The best part about this movie is how much space it covers, how much it tries to tell, many dimensions it has.

Thoroughly enjoyable
11 January 2017
I really enjoyed it. Although the animation does not have the fine detail (fur, grass) of bigger budget movies, the action sequences, characters, visuals and the soundtrack are great. It is very fast moving and full of refreshing jokes and surprises. The creators of this movie must have had lots of fun making it. I disagree with some other reviewers - it is not your typical Noah's Ark story. Imho, it is definitely original, and not just in the main idea, but in many other aspects of the movie as well. I have not watched it with kids, but I believe small kids as well as many adults will love it. If you feel already tired of the Pixar, Disney, etc. style of animated movies, then see this one.

All stories have an ending
5 September 2009
I read a complaint that the movie was a collection of stories without endings. I thought that each storyline actually ended with the good distancing itself from the bad. The boy from his drunk father, the guy saving the kidnapped boy, the wife from her ex, the news reporter from her unscrupulous lover, etc.

It also showed realistically how the AIDS epidemic spread - for example there was a guy called Marti who slept with a lot of people thus he was key to spreading the disease. He would be the "Connector" defined by Malcolm Gladwell in his book "The Tipping Point".

No question, it is a disturbing movie.

The last scene was very powerful! I can't go to the beach now.
