Road House (2024)

Never again, stick with the original

I love the original film Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze, and I watched this film to see how it would compare.... This pales in comparison, the storyline does not work, I mean he was a fighter not a bouncer so him teaching others the ropes was silly; the fight scenes looked odd, almost computer generated.

Most of the characters were forgettable, the back story of him killing his best friend in a fight added nothing; in fact the entire plot made no sense.

I have this a 5 and as I write this review that seems too generous. In short I would suggest that you watch the original to see what a film should look like.

House of the Dragon (2022– )

Basically a drama with a dragon or two added to gain viewers

After Game of Thrones I was looking forward to this show; the first few episodes were promising BUT then the time jumps, from then on it was a losing battle, then ANOTHER time jump. Some actors were kept, other were changed for older ones; it seems that whoever was in charge of casting forgot to read the script "spoiler" how can you have an age difference of just a year or two between the actors playing mother and son?

The lighting was bad, you had to rely on voice recognition.

Now for the dragons, again they kept forgetting how big they were meant to be as each frame the size changed.

All in all disappointing; and I gave a 5, the reason was for the first few episodes and I was feeling generous.

Day of Reckoning (I) (2016)

I enjoyed it!!!

Look, the special effects are dodgy, the story line (example : divorced couple rekindle romance during disaster is obvious). The plot is that 15 years ago these creatures came from the pits of hell and nearly wiped out mankind and it is happening again.

Then there is the rush to get to a shelter, its full etc BUT it is an enjoyable watch, forget the effects etc, if you just want a film that you can sit and watch and enjoy then his will do. (Remember that it is not a box office hit with millions spent on it but it is a decent action style film).

Spoiler : they survive but this is expected; there is no explanation or real back story which is why I just watched it and left my brain in the next room.

D-Railed (2018)

Worth watching

Normally, I look at a rating before watching a film but for some reason I just decided to give this a go, it was only when I finished that I saw the low rating.

I have awarded a 7 as I enjoyed the film and would watch again (I add a point if I would re-watch).

I guessed the "twist" within the first few minutes but have to say that, yes there are some dodgy effects but it is a good film, i really enjoyed the twist (as it proved that I had guessed correctly.

You have the start on the murder mystery train, you have a robbery, a crash and a monster.

If you just want to let go and watch a film, just for enjoyment, then I would recommend this.

Apocalypse of Ice (2020)

Terrible - I will never get this hour or so back!

I saw the rating of 5 so thought that I would give it a go - I was half way through when I read the reviews. What can I add, it was just terrible; the film was trying to be a disaster movie but was just a huge disaster. One of the worst films ever, if it was billed as a comedy it might get a 3 rating.

China Salesman (2017)

Terrible

The fight scene between Tyson & Seagal was so bad, I literally cringed as I watched it. The actual film was terrible, I was willing for it to finish - what can I say the acting was bad, plot bad: Occasionally there is a film so bad you laugh this does not even fall into that category it was terrible.

Bloodshot (2020)

Worth watching

I did not realise that this was based on a comic book when I brought the film, I just brought it because I love Vin Diesel.

It is a great action film with a plot - loved it and hope that there will be a sequel.

The Hard Way (2019)

Worth a watch

I really enjoyed this film, it stars Michael Jai White and Luke Goss - You are therefore watching it as you want to see action and this film delivers. Some great action and the possibility of a sequel implied. I would have given 10 for pure enjoyment but knocked off a star due to the predictability of who was unmasked as the mysterious bad guy.
