Don't take your Mum!
4 March 2021
At first, I was captivated by the establishing drone shots of a system of highways I know very well, having many times visited friends in that part of the Perth hills. Not a typical film opening by any means.

Then we started to see the lush, gentle greenery of the area, and the invasive arum lilies that have choked so many of our WA creeks and waterways. Beautiful but deadly, kind of like the film itself, and not in a good way. Literally deadly.

Shocking. Deeply frightening. At times, too much to bear. I had to cover my face in dread of what was coming next. This movie was not what I expected it to be.

It's beautifully filmed, brilliantly acted, haunting music, and characters we've either been, or known, or loved, and a clever, witty, interesting script. Couldn't fault any of it. But the story underneath the story is something out of the box.

A very strange love story that will break your heart in ways you won't expect. But a word of warning: don't take your Mum.

Bronco (1958–1962)
Imaginary self.
22 April 2006
I was a little girl of about three when I fell in love with Bronco Lane. It was my first ever favourite TV show, and Bronco was my first ever heart-throb character. One day, my mother sent me to the shop, but I was away for so long that she came looking for me. Apparently, whenever the shop-keeper tried to serve me, I refused to speak to her. My mother asked me why, and I replied that I wouldn't answer until I was addressed, not by my name, but as "Bronco Lane". I do not remember this incident, but I strongly recall how much I loved the show, and thinking that Bronco (Ty Hardin) was the most handsome man in the world!
