The Book of Clarence (2023)
Disappointed
This film is a curiosity as I saw it billed as a comedy and western (?) but the jokes are lacking. The sound was bad and I couldn't follow the dialogue or understand what the cast was saying. There were less than 10 people in the theater but my friend and I were the only ones who laughed about five times. I'm so sorry to give it a bad review as I like to support black films but this one missed the mark. Or maybe it's too sophisticated for me ? I suggest you watch it free on tv eventually as you just won't get much value from watching at a theater. Read the other reviews if you're interested in taking a chance.
Persuasion (2022)
They went too far trying to modernize it! Bad move.
No way would Mr. Elliott disrespect a lady by kissing her out in the street. And she wouldn't let it happen. This version is ridiculous. Can't understand why this generation thinks everything needs to be updated for today's audience. The reason we read classics is to learn what life was like during that time period. How can we learn if it's completely modernize? What a mess. Don't bother.
The Christmas Train (2017)
Wow, very unrealistic even for Hallmark!
The passengers are shown at a variety of train stations but somehow the maid of honor couldn't find something to wear to the wedding other than her jeans? She didn't have anything in her suitcase or wasn't kind enough to go buy a skirt?? A Hollywood screen writer? Please! We put up with a lot of dumb plots and dialogue in these movies but do give the audience some credit. We love Christmas and silly love stories but make them have some connection to how the world works.
A Winter Getaway (2021)
Too unbelievable for words
The scenery, mountains, snow, etc. were beautiful but the set-up was just too much. If the friend was paying for this vacation, no one would stay in this high end room when they KNOW that this is not the room the friend paid for. Who's paying the difference? For the male lead to insist that the luggage guy and others call him by his first name is unrealistic, as the staff know they may get in trouble for being too familiar with the guest. The script made him seem too much like a country bumpkin and a liar. Sorry I just couldn't buy it, even thought the leads were nice to look at and somewhat charming. Hallmark should use them in other movies with better scripts/set ups and ending.
