Si no t'hagués conegut (2018)
Too long and weepy but still good
It's a cross between sf and romance, and way too much of the latter...too many boring romantic scenes. Also, lots of inconsistencies, though these are nicely (sort of) explained by Everest. What's really tragic is hair and makeup. The actors look exactly the same whether they're 20 or 40; in fact the attempt to make them look younger backfires. Still, very interesting premise although done millions of times before. The twist in penultimate episode is pretty much expected since episode one, but it's still a surprise. Why is it rated 18 by Netflix?
Ad Vitam (2018)
Netflix's info nearly made me miss it...
It was on my list forever as it's sf but Netflix's info on it was so misleading that I kept ignoring the show. I'm so glad I didn't. It's so different and so much better than all the other stuff on immortality. I'm so tired of the type of future imagined in 'blade runner' or 'altered carbon'...all these weird market places where you can buy nearly anything. The future here looks very much like the present, except a couple of details. The show's approach to extending life indefinitely is by far the best I've seen in ages. The show looks at aspects other tv shows usually don't explore, like forgetting what bereavement is. ..quite amazing
Earthquake Bird (2019)
interesting and sad
The lead actress is really good; very emotional. Story line is really good and surprisingly not so predictable. The setting (Tokyo) really adds to the story
Suits (2011)
started off great, but got bad pretty fast
Such an annoying show. I am on season 6 only because I want to see who is going to end up with who, but my patience is running out so I'll probably just google it. The characters are very inconsistent, especially the main guy (Mike Ross). He is an hypocrite, very sly, pushy, manipulative, and a real 'artist' to quote one of the other characters. All of this would be fine if only we weren't constantly manipulated into taking his side. It only works for the two seasons. though, and, sadly, once we actually realise how compromised the protagonist is, the show becomes unwatchable. Rachel (Megan M) is very good at the start, but then she just cries all the time (sorry, it was meant not to contain any spoilers).
