Move along, nothing to see here

Remember those old Van Damme or Chuck Norris movies? Action packed, thin plot, cheesy dialogue, poor acting but good popcorn movies.

This has no plot, and seems written as an afterthough. The character doesn't seem consistent, the scenarios are absurd, the decisions are dumb and there's not even a few one liners to chuckle at.

Statham plays the same kind of character he always plays minus the usual dark humor. The guy from the Hunger Games plays a ridiculous villain and for the life of me, I don't know how they got Jeremy Irons to join this steaming pile of dung.

If you value your time, go watch somethi else. I have no idea why or how this got such a high rating. I went in with low expectations, and it fell short of those.

Worth a watch

Compared to the crap out there today I might even score it higher. It has it's moments, part Rom-Com part " documentary ", this mockumentantary kept me entertained for 90 minutes. Sure there's some bad acting, some humor lands flat, and some of the writing could have been better, however, if I'd paid to rent or go see this movie, I would have been satisfied and not felt ripped off as it happens nowadays 90% of the time. Carmen Electra is a goddess with amazing comedic timing, Lucy Liu's acting was still a work in progress back then so I won't be too harsh and rate it as adequate, but she's come a long way. Just grab some popcorn and enjoy the most brilliant part of the film : The narration by David Hyde-Pierce. Just plain genius. He makes the movie worth it.

Just plain fun

Ignore plotholes, place you brain in neutral, grab your popcorn and sitback to enjoy this over the top, sort of gory, buddy / not so buddy action -adventure - comedy. The performances are solid and everyone seems like they had a blast making this thing. It's not even remotely meant to be taken seriously, but fair warning, blood and gore are sprinkled on with a heavy hand. You will also feel guilty at laughing at some incredibly dark humor, but don't hold back, let it out. The 10 episodes give you a full story arc and leave enough of a cliffhanger to get a season 2 going it this show sticks the landing. Personally, I can't wait.

Silly fun.

It's a shame that it's so hard to get a copy of this movie anywhere. I saw this movie back in the 80's on VHS and loved it. It was a video antidepressant of sorts. It's of humor and gags a teenager would enjoy, or in my case, someone who has an overgrown inner child. By no means is this a masterpiece or a benchmark for any Hollywood movie. This is a low budget, simple, funny, popcorn, leave brain at door, B movie. The cinematography is amateurish, and the writing unpolished, yet charming. I've wanted to re-watch it for ages and see if it holds up and what I'd think of it today. The cast is fabulous and you can tell everyone was there more for fun than just a paycheck. I came upon a low resolution copy of it online after looking for it on every streaming service, to no avail. I watched it 40 years later, and yes, still holds up.

I have no idea why the high rating
9 September 2023
The movie is dull, unengaging, is creatively daft and the characters are barely tolerable. I've had more fun during a root canal. The premise of the broke girl, out of options who decides to date a dork has been done many times over much better and at least in a humorous way. Jennifer Lawrence's character is in a situation that would usually drum up sympathy from the audience, but comes across as an abrasive cynic to whom life is quite honestly serving what she deserves. No shade on her talent, the character is poorly written and she does what she can with what she's got. The Dorky kid is portrayed more as someone with some sort of disability rather than a shy, sheltered kid. Re-write it, make it a drama about getrification and the abuse of the have-not, and it might work. Do not waste your time.

It wasn't as bad as Thor: Love and Thunder?

Not a compliment. For starters, if you're not privy to the knowledge of what happens on Wandavison and other Disney money grabs, you'd be a bit lost. The movie revolves around Wanda / Scarlet Witch way more that it has anything to do with Doctor Strange. Plenty of CGI to keep you from noticing a flawed story where Wanda learned nothing from past experience. America Chavez...again, no reference point. If you don't have a Disney subscription, you have no idea who this is . The acting is decent, but the convoluted situations seem to be unnecessary or weirdly resolved . Now Wanda has mental powers greater that the greatest mind in the universe too ( I'll say no more, don't want to spill any deets). It wasn't a total dumpster fire, but so much more could have been done Disney has been able to destroy every franchise I've ever loved. That's not a mouse, it's a rat.

Half baked campy comedy with Marvel characters
9 October 2022
Taika is a creative guy, and I appreciate hos sense of humor, however, he was not the guy for this movie. It was a badly stitched together bag of gags with a fever dream storyline. The only acting that shone was that of Christian Bale, (not for lack of a talented cast). Bale was absolutely brilliant. He was a wasted talent in this trash fire of a movie. Now, if you have pot and cookie dough handy, you'll get some giggles. Natalie Portman does what she can with the material. The characters from Guardians of the Galaxy are of no relevance to the story, Jamie Alexander seems to phone it in, in her brief appearances. Watch it if you have nothing better to do.

Absolutely brilliant!

It's too bad Melissa got a cease and desist for this wonderful piece of work. It was a ton of dark fun to watch and it was played with love as defined by Wednesday herself ;)

Are we that desperate for content?

I was able to get through 5 episodes of the " revival" before giving up. This is not a revival, it's a zombie corpse of comedy. Unfunny and stinks. Sorry guys, you're all talented, but this was awful.

Weird but strangely enjoyable

Just sit back, relax and let it roll. It's a trip into weird without hallucinations. Acting was brilliant and you could tell the actors were enjoying the free range to express themselves.

It is a guilty pleasure. It's that terrible burger that you somehow enjoyed. I had fun, was entertained, and loved having actors poke fun at their personas.

Confusing action packed crap
16 December 2019
The movie had potential but the editing was confusing, and action scenes became "noise". Characters seemed inconsistent and as much as I love Ryan, he was poorly directed. This was a concoction of action in a blender. I expected better.
