Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023)

A fantastic spectacle

I found the movie to be a compelling take on Yi Sun Shin's final battle and one that was incredibly meaningful and full of historical quotes and moments. As someone who is an enthuisiast on the Imijin War, I found myself suprised by how well they demonstrated the complexity of the situation on screen.

The action was spectacular in spectacle and the director really showed the whole battle in a clear fashion that was also true to the historical narrative.

The final part where Yi Sun Shin is shot and his son carries on the beat of the drum actually happened and was overlaid with a beautiful shot overlooking the dawn.

A Thrilling Reality Show

Last year when the global phenomenon squid game became the most populat show in netflix history, viewers remember the excitement fear and jaw dropping tension of the series. This is just as impactful except it is family friendly with no dead contestants. You are constantly kept on the edge of your seat thinking that one contestant will lose or win compared to another only to have your expectations be brought down by the hammer. So many of the world's finest atheletes all competing in games where no one has a particular advantage in terms of skill. It is truly a fascinating series and one of the best I've seen thusfar.
