Same old trope
15 September 2022
This film appears in a lot of the different horror movie rankings from different sites so I thought I'd finally give it a try. Started out OK with the blind antagonist being an military veteran so you know to expect some extreme PTSD. But very quickly the illogical decision making appears. Like actually climbing DOWN a ladder going into the basement instead of heading for the nearest exit. From there it's just bits and pieces from your average "horror" movies. Some WTH moments and Lang really made you feel the use of other senses. Ending nothing new. This is why I've started indulging in foreign horror flicks. While the premises may not be new the stories are told/shown in a much more original way. And they don't ALWAYS have teenage and young adults as the main characters. I'm so over that.

Just...WOW
11 September 2022
This flick popped up in the auto-shuffle on Tubi. I did not expect that it would get so deep. The little boys narration of the story is what hooked me. We really get to feel his state of mind as he tries to cope with his brother and life. I liked the pacing. Some say it's too slow but that gives time for story and character development. If you're looking for jump scenes don't watch. They don't go with the tempo of the theme anyway so no loss there. Fans of gore will like the movie-in-the-movie scene and the ending. I thought the actors played their roles realistically. Again, for the situation the acting was really good and without the Hollywood type of drama. Except for the father. He seemed to unintentionally exaggerate the role so his actions look fake. The older brother was straight out of an episode of Evil Lives Here. In fact, the whole movie is just a more graphic extended version with a bigger production budget. Definitely worth the watch.

REFRESHINGLY SCARY
11 September 2022
I am one of a few that believe there is a difference between scary and horror. The Exorcist was scary. The ending in Carrie made that a scary movie. This was unequivocally SCARY! The best I've seen in years. You're sucked in within the first 10 mins. A lot of creepy, WTH moments that actually made me curl into the fetal position and/or gasp. The part of the plot with the lady researcher kind of slowed things down though. But you were quickly rewarded in the subsequent scenes. The "things" are realistic. Not too much CGI. Not a lot of gore. A couple scenes might be disturbing to some. The acting was acceptable. No one stood out in particular. This was really, really good. You may need to peek under your bed tonight...

LAFAYETTE
22 August 2022
I picked this out of the blue for something to watch while I ate my pizza. I ended up watching 4 episodes back-to-back. It is an unexpectedly unexpected (yes, I said it that way purposely) view of the stripper life. I love all of the characters so far. The back stories feel real and genuine. I just can't stop thinking about how good Lafayette from True Blood would be as Uncle Clifford. I will be watching more tonight.

What was the Horrible Stuff?
5 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched all episodes and really didn't see anything too traumatic or extreme while they were lost. Ate wild animals, couple deaths, ate shrooms and tripped out. I guess it was supposed to be psychological trauma. "I Survived" has more disturbing survival stories.

Be prepared for Mininal Dialogue

Once you get past that it's worth a watch. Stick with it until the end. You will definitely need to be able to interpret the thoughts of ScarJo. A particular scene took me back to high school when my best friend lost her virginity. Neither one of them thought she had a hole down there.

Do the Lights Work in the Apt?
24 July 2022
Didn't understand why the Kim chick never cut on the lights after hearing and seeing strange stuff at night. Except, when getting it on with the geeky dude. And why continue to sleep in a room with a creepy hole in the wall? The couch looked comfortable. Nothing compelling here. Nothing stands out. Ending is the same old same old.

Did No One Else Live in the Building?
12 June 2022
This was a decent flick. I really liked how saw the various range of emotion. Also the mental state she had to put herself in to try and survive. Except, I couldn't stop thinking " why isn't she banging on walls, floor, ceiling, blasting music/tv every day while he's at work?". Someone would've called the landlord/police for a noise complaint.

WATCH THROUGH THE END
12 June 2022
I think the majority of the reviewers never watched the whole movie. This film is about post partum psychosis. With the Mom battling with her position in life and her family. Done very well. The relationship between Marlo and Tully is sometimes questionable (waitress uniform fantasy scene) but believable. I didn't truly get it until the doctor states "she is suffering from sleep deprivation" after what seemed like a few weeks with the night nanny.

Twist Good... Ending Bad
27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was pretty decent for midday watching. It had a good pace and kept you engaged. Acting decent. The twist was well portraited, even though you probably already had figured it out. My issue is how the movie became unhinged after. It became cheesy. The music just made it worse. Almost comedic. I did like that the dude survived cause the bullet hit the metal plate in his head. Just not the way they decided to film his come back. Went overboard with the "hero" aspect at the end I think.

NO SYMPATHY
9 April 2022
This is one of those episodes where you can't feel any compassion for the mother. She created the monster. There was no mental illness on the son's part. The mother makes me want to puke. Head in the sand from the beginning. And she tried to use alcohol as an excuse. Right.

Better than "horror" flix
9 April 2022
This is way better than most movies being released now. Mainly because these are true accounts of real life events. However, I do want to yell at my TV at times because of the parents and women that allow themselves to be victims. Even contributing to/conditioning the perps actions. There's a difference between having real mental health issues and just being an ahole. I am a woman of a child with schizophrenia BTW.

NOT SURE WHAT I SAW
25 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am super fan of obscure horror and thrillers. Polanski's Tenant is one of my favorites. I was really looking forward to this movie, however, it just didn't do it for me. Too disjointed, no continuity. How did Alexia know dude had a missing son? I have to assume that the steroids affected the dude's brain. There's no other explanation for accepting an adult hostile weirdo into your home without asking questions. Why no visits to a clinic when your body is leaking black oil? There wasn't any explanation for either of the main characters actions. What did the baby look like? Very disappointed.

HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW?!?
29 January 2022
I'm seriously questioning the cognitive skills of some reviewers. This clearly is a parody of Lifetime like mysteries. It's supposed to be silly. The handyman and the BFF always stopping by are the funniest scenes. The fact that the silliness is portrayed so serious is the hook. Lighten up amateur " film critics.

STRETCHY SKIN
11 January 2022
The two main characters obviously had a very high tolerance for pain seeing how they were twisting and turning the whole time without screaming. Yes, there were times where you can clearly see that they are not connected but let's act like we didn't see it. They even managed to enjoy sex. Those had to be some strong sutures.

Should've just stuck with a crazy deranged villian with an unknown motive. It would've been better.

THE BOMB!
29 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Best thing I've seen on Netflix in months. The way that the games are set up is what makes this good. I just would rather be shot in the head instead of playing this.... Tug of War and that Glass game is brutal! Almost cried during the Marble game. And the two most irritating players plunged to their death at the same time. I was on my couch cheering!

Check it out.

Give me a break..
25 September 2021
Couch critics. Movies are meant for entertainment, in whatever form. If you know this is not your type of entertainment then don't rate it. This is an unrealistic, predictable, over the top, chicks in tank tops, "why TF did you do that" kind of movie. The acting is nominal but effective for the purpose. The outrageousness is what makes it amusing. It's a really good bad movie. Enjoy with a dose of THC and a drink.

Best episode so far...
13 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Loved learning about how Belle came to be and how she embraced the unleashed creativity regardless of the "side effects". Austin was THE worst drag queen ever. It was so bad, it was hilarious to watch his performance on stage. And, now I know why the untalented wear those jackets with the weird shoulder pads. Also loved the part about how the Black pills came into existence. Don't F with the Chemist.

Spell (2020)
Better than average
1 September 2021
This was a really engaging flick. It keeps your attention from beginning to end. The few scenes of gore work. The voodoo is believable if you've ever read about it. Veteran queen of versatility Loretta Devine plays her role perfectly.

I think the bad reviews are from people who "don't see themselves" in this movie. They either can't relate, never watched it or prematurely dismissed it. Comparisons to "Get Out" make no sense except for Black lead actors.

Yes, it makes you think of "Misery" but this is on another plane. Ending could've been more climatic but an overall entertaining movie.

Who's more human?
25 August 2021
Excellent commentary on "who decides what is civilized?". Although the main character claims that he is civilizing the feral, he is the one who needs to be taught how to maintain his family in a civilized manner. Kinda low budget but makes its point and keeps your attention. The husband has corrupted the whole family in one way or the other. The feral was being feral...

Good, but...
29 July 2021
A good story that ended up being anti-climatic. Alex was not really needed. It could've easily been the chain smoking waitress that gave the girl the "speech".

And why was there no retribution for the dude that slapped her (undisciplined) child and knocked her head against a wall. This is the second episode I've seen where a male ahole gets away scot-free. New Orleans being the other episode.

The premise for this episode seems to have been lifted from Masters of Horror Cigarette Burns, which was much better. The whole teenager horror thing has gotten old.

Cute little flick if you're wanting another take on a vampire movie. I personally love all vampire movies so I give most a chance. Really can't discuss without spoilers so... But why doesn't ANYONE in the movie have a New York accent if everybody is from the Bronx?
