It Pays to Be Ignorant (1973)
A comedy classic!
It Pays to Be Ignorant was broadcast from September 1973-Spring 1974. It was a remake of the earlier radio and short lived television show. This version featured Joe Flynn as the moderator, Joanne Worley, Charles Nelson Reilly and British comic Billy Baxter as panelists. The announcer was Jay Stewart. It featured dumb questions like "Who wrote Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens?" and "What river goes through Mississippi and has the same name?" The panelists fumble at trying to answer the question and never succeed. The questions are selected by a descending dunce cap and when time is up, a cuckoo bird sound is heard. The contestant who selects the question is usually given a dumb prize like a "do it yourself kit". When Billy Baxter asks what the contestant will do with a "do it yourself kit", Joe Flynn drily answers "Why would you care? She's going to do it herself". Does anyone know where the episodes to this show are? I think it was one of the BEST SHOWS ever. It was syndicated and not broadcast on a major network.
Fright Night (1970)
Seymour Presents?
I remember seeing in the 1970's a program similar to Fright Night entitled Seymour Presents starring Larry Vincent as Seymour coming from behind the slimy wall to introduce a really bad horror film. (Larry bore a striking resemblance to John Carradine). He would say after the film was over: "Well that's another bomb off the assembly line." He would also end the program by looking in the camera, blowing a kazoo that would make a raspberry sound and then saying "Bad evening!!" His announcer was the unseen voice of Herkimer Yewjenski who would introduce the show by saying "Greetings fringees and welcome to Seymour Presents!" Anybody remember this version of the show?
