The Block Island Sound (2020)
Tension-filled with fine performances
Reading such polarizing reviews piqued my interest. I had to find out for myself.
I too was hooked from the get go and stayed fully involved to the end.
The acting from the lead characters was both natural and realistic, which made it more involving. I cared about them. I liked that the film only became melodramatic when it needed to be. Glad I watched it.
Moment to Moment (1966)
One of my all time favorites...but why no DVD or Blu-ray?
It's been 50 years since I've seen this film. Like others, it has stayed with me for decades. I remember watching it on tv with my Mom and reveling in its beauty and mystery. This movie had it all...fear, romance, regret and longing with a touching performance by the lovely Seberg. Honor Blackman costars, fresh off her Bond girl stint in Goldfinger and her presence here really adds to the film's allure. Throw in one of the most heartfelt and haunting musical scores by Henry Mancini eternally cementing this memory in my heart and soul. I would so love to see it again as it would make me feel like I was with Mom again.
Waterloo Bridge (1940)
breaking news..this classic is coming out on Blu-ray DVD on Oct 27th, 2020....At last!
Not to sound cliche, but they really don't make them like this anymore. A true classic with sensitive and moving performances by the whole cast. The sheer beauty and charismatic presence of Vivien Leigh as Myra is the stuff movies were made for. She's not just beautiful but gives a haunting portrayal that's hard to forget. As for Robert Taylor, this is the best role of his career, which he himself has said. Virginia Field plays Myra's friend Kitty with a depth and poignancy that will stay with you long after the movie ends. It's probably the best performance of her career.
Veteran, Lucille Watson plays Roy's mother. What a seasoned pro she is in this film. A real class act. Maria Ouspenskaya is delightfully mean as Myra's ballet teacher and C. Aubrey Smith is both stern and caring as Roy's superior officer.
Homecoming (2018)
Prepared not to like it based on mixed reviews, BUT
Was looking forward to season 2 and read several spoiler free reviews to get a sense of what to expect. I didn't read any reviews fully as I wanted to "discover" this season for myself without too much bias one way or the other.
Turns out I'm really enjoying it. I have 2 episodes to go. Granted, it is uneven at times, but guess what...so was season 1 Imho, yet I enjoyed that as well but in a different way.
I'm basing this review on how involved I feel in the story and how I can't wait to see what happens. That's what matters.
Us (2019)
After leaving the theatre, it took several hours, even days before I could fully know how I felt.
At first, I didn't know if I liked this film or not, but after days of introspection - it really starting growing on me. The movie did drag in a few spots but remained intriguing. For me, it really picked up when the family fled to seek help at their friends house. I'm glad it had some humor as well. Tim Heidecker scared me the most and kind of freaked me out.... in a good way. Though the film was uneven, I appreciated how eerie and thought-provoking it was.
