The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019)
Perfect Film for Kids... Parents Too!
I'll leave this to the expert: my grand niece. She thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I enjoyed watching her enjoy it. And yes, I really enjoyed this film too, finding it every bit as good as the original "The Secret Life of Pets." Stand out scenes including the one where Chloe the cat teaches Gidget the Pomeranian to behave life a cat; and the chase at the end where Max and Snowball rescue the tiger on the speeding train. That one kept me and my grand niece on the edge of our seats. Make this film one for a family movie night (or matinee).
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Sadomasochist's Delight
What can one say about a movie which is basically a string of violent encounters strung along by only a tissue of a plot. The "hero" gets shot or stabbed with more holes than Fearless Fosdick and the body count rivals the Gulf War. And some of the violence is over the top. When Wick pops an eye by sticking a sword into it I had to look away only to see a women a seat to my right regurgitate her blue raspberry slushy. If your idea of entertainment is watching two hours of shootings, stabbing, impaling and dismemberment, this is a film for you. Others will leave feeling like a ghoul.
A Dog's Journey (2019)
Heartwarming Tale For the Whole Family
Bailey the oft reincarnated dog gets a new mission from Ethan to watch over his granddaughter C.J. and he/she does a great job watching over her in several guises and eventually helping her find happiness and returning her to her grandparents. I dare you not to tear up when Bailey, his mission completed, joins Ethan in heaven. I really loved this film. And you can take the kids to see it.
Little (2019)
Big fun from little Marsai
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought. There were many funny bits, the best when Jordan Sanders awakes as her old 13-year-old self and doesn't realize it. Thinking her assistant April Williams didn't place her slippers the right distance from the bed due to shorter legs and goes running around her apartment complex, getting bowled over by the boy she earlier shoved out of her way, gets laughed at the coffee counter, before realizing she has become a child before she had her Lasix eye surgery. Another is when April, posing as her guardian, finally has enough of Jordan's nasty attitude and engages in a slapstick battle ending with Little Jordan getting a well-deserved spanking, followed by April's victory dance. The tie-in between April's app letting users see the world through the eyes of a child and Little Jordan doing just that and realizing she is hated and has no friends, causing her reevaluate her life, brings a fine moral to end the film. Marsai Martin (Little Jordan), Issa Rae (April) and Regina Hall (Big Jordan) all give top-notch performances. I recommend seeing it!
By the way, I noticed some shots from "Little" used in the trailer and TV ads that didn't appear in the movie probably due to edits tightening the film before release.
