It feels like you're standing in a group of friends being idiots
5 July 2022
The way the audience is involved is hilarious and unpredictable, and the two improvising by themselves is like a couple of friends just messing around and being insane. It's amazing.

Love, Simon (2018)

Honestly, I'm so glad I read the book first
28 December 2020
If I watched the film before reading the book, I probably wouldn't have bothered. In the book Blue's identity is kept secret until the last 50 pages or so, with subtle hints, some of which are misleading. In the film his identity is revealed explicitly 25 minutes in. Then there's that annoying teacher who talks to students about his tinder hookups, which no real teacher would ever do without getting fired and Martin's character is so unlikable in the film, in the book the whole point was everyone except Simon liked him, but here he's just annoying and awful and creepy.

The book felt so realistic and really resonated with me, being a gay teenager who is struggling to come out, and the film just didn't do it justice.

The Mask (1994)

It's just a bit creepy and there's no humour to compensate.

Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea what age group this is aimed at, it seems a too adult for children (with the abusive relationship and condom and excessive gun violence) but to childish for most adults (the green head that turns into a wolf for a joke). And it's just not funny. I didn't really laugh at all throughout the whole thing. And I didn't really like any of the characters, Stanley is creepy around women, so is his friend. Everyone else is a villain. Jim Carey's acting isn't bad, but the characters not very good. I really don't understand the appeal.

Aladdin (2019)

They have a "brand of magic that never fails"
3 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There aren't any specific negatives I can find, there are lots of positives. Will Smith was a brilliant Genie, his renditions of friend like me, and Prince Ali were good , but not as good as Robin Williams'. Where he really shone was when he was human assisting Aladdin, they had like buddy cop type relationship that caused lots of laughs. Especially where Aladdin had kind of awkward behaviour, Will Smith made it funny. He was kind of like his wing man when Aladdin was trying to ask out Jasmine. They seemed more like friends than in the original where they seemed like colleagues, people who got along but were forced to be together at the same tirm.

Overall, a fitting remake for a good film

The Lion King (2019)
8/10
Great movie, funny, sad, happy, very similar to the original, which is a good thing.

Warning: Spoilers
The problem is we keep automatically comparing it to the original. In its own respect, it is a great movie. However, I did NOT like Beyonce. She cannot do voice over, she lingered on the end of every note in can you feel the love tonight, and the new song she made for the journey back to the pride lands just doesn't fit with the theme of the movie. I loved the beauty and the beast reference and how Timone and Pumba joke about how much Simba had grown during the Hukuna Matata song. Also it had more adult jokes compared to the original, "the giraffes were caught necking" and how Timone doesn't sensor the "farted" line in Hukuna Matata where I'm the original he says "not in front of the kids" in this one he just let's Pumba say "every time I farted". I enjoyed the way they adapted I just can't wait to be king to fit the more realistic version of the movie. The Circle Of Life was awesome, it was identical to the original except for the amazing animation (you may notice I have not yet mentioned live action) and it looked so real. As for the animals, people are saying there was less emotion because they had fewer human qualities, but it was a different type of emotion, it was the sadness you get when a lion gets surrounded by hyenas I'm a nature documentary, the happiness you get when the meerkat doesn't get eaten by then hyena. They weren't human, they were animals, and I can have emotion for animals as well as humans. Although in some places when the 'camera' was overhead it did sound a bit like a James earl Jones voice over. Because you can't see their mouths moving as much from a distance but the singing, especially in the younger lions, and Zazu, felt right and natural. We know animals sing in their own languages, we know they dance to impress a mate, why is it so far fetched for some people to believe lion cubs would joke around, sing, play fight, a bit of dancing, and some peer pressure. There were some technical inaccuracies that were not fixed from the original, the leafcutter ants, native to South America, and yet they had been given a bigger part than in the original, they are the first in the circle of life sequence and deliver a tutu of Simba's hair to Rafiki. There are others but I am aware this is already quite a long review.

Overall, a very good movie, very entertaining, very fun. I sat there mouthing all the words to all the songs, being realistic doesn't take away from the magic of The Lion King.

2nd Favourite Movie EVER!
20 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Very, very, very good. Not a usual sequel, in my opinion, better than Homecoming. The plot twist was awesome. I could never imagine Quentin Beck being integrated into the marvel cinematic universe but they pulled it off perfectly, the drones were a stroke of brilliance. And that ending. "Peter Parker is Spiderman" the sense of dread that followed and easily leads into the third. I cannot wait until Spiderman 3.

Oh my Norse God.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. One of the best movies I have seen. Ever. I am going to see it again next weekend. I had it spoiled for me but watching it happen. That experience can never be spoiled. I laughed one minute and cried the next. It tugged at heart strings and tickled the funny bone whilst including the mandatory amount of action any Marvel movie needs. All round perfect.

Dumbo (2019)
7/10
Not the old dumbo. But good in a different way.

No it wasn't a word by word remake. The bad reviews it's getting are due to people clinging on to their childhood and not appreciating a good new movie. The jungle book wasn't word for word and still a great movie. In time this will become a new classic. I had different elements made to engage a younger audience. It has more levels than an elephant missing his mother. It shows animal cruelty and how it is wrong. It show the effects of greed and selfishness. It isn't just an hour and fifty two minutes of film. It's an hour and fifty two minutes of interesting, enlightening cinema

Aquaman (2018)
5/10
Average Movie. Below Average Superhero Movie
21 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It was mediocre. Predictable. Unrelatable. Unrealistic. In fairness aqua man is a difficult hero to pull off. They should have played it with the "making of of it style" like marvel did with ant man. The comics were so unrealistic that to portary them on the screen does best with a comical approach. This was the DC equivalent of iron Man 2, it's quality is disputed. Is is below Wonder Woman and Shazam but above Batman V Superman and Justice League. On a side note why do the suits of armour look like the villains out of power rangers.
