Dune Drifter (2020)

A good effort, I've seen worse.
7 November 2021
Considering this is very low budget and made with effort and heart it's not as bad as many bigger budget movies I've seen.

The opening scene is a bit of a mess with how the sound was done and the "alien" we see half way through the movie is absolutely laughable but the actors are solid, the effects and props are pretty good by no budget standard. It's worth a look for the B movies Sci lovers among us.

Men are bad, women are great, WE GET IT

What started as a fun horror jont turned into another pile of feminist nonsense in the third act. You can tell this was written and directed by someone who doesn't know how to make anything other than over the top drivel. The less we see of this directors work in the future the better.

Van Helsing (2016–2021)

Nicole munoz pretty much ruined it.
16 July 2021
Season 1+2. 8/10.

Good production values and some excellent acting. The writing is straightforward and predictable but it's still highly enjoyable.

Season 3. 7/10.

Getting kinda stupid and ridiculous but I'm still interested in the characters and the acting is still pretty good.

Season 4. 6/10 Okay lads, what's going on? Story is okay in parts, the best actors are leaving the show rapidly and being replaced with people who couldn't act wet if you threw them in the ocean. Nicole munoz has to be the worst actor I've ever seen on screen.

Season 5. 3/10 Nicole munoz now leads the cast, she's an absolute disaster. Tricia helfer is the only saving grace. Ita actually painful to watch.

The Old Guard (2020)

Needed a much better director.
14 July 2020
For the most part the elements are right. Written by the comics writer. Strong cast, all good performances. Fight choreography wasn't bad but was very poorly shot. The main problem is slightly slow pace and unimaginative directing. If this were given to someone with more skill it could have been great. The story is good and I'd recommend it as a popcorn movie. Here's hoping if they do make a sequal they get a more experienced director.

One long poor product placement
14 December 2019
The film it self is passable only because of Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the cast who all do a pretty good job. The writing is fairly sharp and the over all story though predictable is entertaining. The film was really marred by the incredible amount of in your face product placement. Every few minutes there is a label or badge (usually with Ryan Reynolds) center frame. It's very off-putting. The movie id have given a solid 6 out of ten but 2 knocked off for product placement. Seriously netflix if you can't afford to make the film yourself then don't even try.

I feel sorry for the production crew.
8 August 2019
Pros: 1, very well made. You can see the crew put their heart and soul into every shot 2, Interesting over all stories. It's surprising still watchable after 5 seasons even if it gets very silly at times. 3, Excellent effects and make up. It easily rivals TWD for this, better in some respects.

Cons: 1, very poorly written dialogue. Half the time the reactions of the characters are the opposite of what any human reaction would be. 2, the acting is ssssoooooo bad. A special mention for Natalie Jongjaroenlarp (she plays red in the later seasons). I cannot put into words how truly terrible an actor she is. It's like they picked someone completely random off the street with no acting training at all.

It's still a half decent watch and actually more enjoyable then what TWD has become. It's strength is in its sillyness and its acknowledgment of that sillyness. Honest its worth watching for scenes between Murphy and Warren alone.

Not a single redeeming factor
12 February 2019
There is just nothing good about this film. There isn't one passable performance from any actor. Every speech, heartfelt moment, every death of a speaking character hits with all the impact of a feather thrown by a kitten. The only thing worse than the laughably childish directing is watching the continual decline of Nicholas Cage. A special mention to the shots through gun scopes... Which are nearly all done from the wrong angle and clearly through camera perspective. It's shockingly poor cinematography and unforgivable that it got past the director and editor too. Don't wast 85 minutes of your life on this sludge.

A very seriously underrated gem.
7 September 2018
It doesn't really try to be too different from the usual groundhog day formula or the stalker/slasher genre but it does meld the two together extremely well. The cast is excellent, the direction is spot on and the writing is sharp. Considering I had heard nothing about this before I randomly watched it im genuinely surprised it doesn't have more notoriety. Definitely worth your time.

Gina Gershon is the only good thing about this.

With one exception every actor completely phones it in. Completely unimaginative directing, poor editing and very predictable. Not worth 100 minutes of your life.

Skyline (2010)
8/10
its a pure popcorn movie
14 November 2010
Its as simple as this. The script is awful, the directing is shoddy, and the acting is abysmal but none of these are why Skyline exists. Its an alien invasion movie plain and simple, balls to the wall action and some great action set pieces.

Most previous reviewers were probably looking for something more cerebral but in essence its just 2010 with aliens. I do recommend you see this in the cinema rather then waiting for the home release just for the big action set pieces, they really should be seen in the cinema.

Its not gonna win any Oscars (maybe special effects) but its great fun and a nice twist on the whole alien invasion thing.

Turn your brain off and enjoy!

First Wave (1998–2001)
great start, fantastic middle, pathetic end, why... traci lords!
29 January 2002
This was one of those programs that would make you want to watch them. It had a great base story that you will have read in one of the reviews above so i wont bore you with that. One thing that i loved was how each episode added a little to the overall story each week without making it feel like a cheap star trek rip off, in fact the only other program to do this is stargate sg1 which is superior but in fairness it has a lot more to work with. In first wave the two central characters were so well written it made you feel concern for them and their quests a factor that often separate it from most other sci fi productions. So often studios are so wrapped up in special effects that they forget about character development. The greatest travesty of this whole masterpiece was its one flaw, which almost marred the whole thing. Some mad man at the end of season two/start of season three decided to introduce a love interest in the form of jorden radcliffe unabley played by Traci lords, a former porn actress. The only industry that could accept such worthless acting, it was completely laughable whenever she tried to be emotional with cade. Without Traci lords participation im sure first wave would still be running.

Lastly i will give the producers credit for ending the show while they were ahead rather then so many others such as BRIMSTONE, VENGENCE UNLIMETED and NOW AND AGAIN which were all excellent but just never got going and were left mid season. Overall, first wave was a great way to spend a night in.

Vagrant Story (2000 Video Game)

AN EXPERIENCE
13 November 2000
To say this is a master-peice doesnt do it justice. This is one of those games that only comes along every now and then. If you have played final fantasy on the playstation you will have a rough idea of what to expect, VERY ROUGH. While FF took alot of brain power rather then skill, VAGRANT STORY lets you choose wheather you are to become a mighty barbarian or a magical wizard. The fighting system is inspired, similar to Final Fantasy 8 you must make "links"to each strike of your sword/bow/axe/dagger/long blade and many others, each link must be timed perfectly at the moment of impact for the next one to hit, but this is where risk points come in and it gets tricky.

The more you hit, the higher your risk points go(up to one hundred), the higher your risk points go the more likely you'll miss the enemy and get hit your self. You also have the ability to make your own weapons in the many workshops scattered around the city, this can be alot of fun trying out your own creation on the enemy. This is not a ten minute game, because from once you pick it up you'll play for hours, the story is absorbing, the combat system is fantastic, and the freedom of choose is refreshing. "BUY THIS AND CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT GAMES FOREVER!" 10/10. {k.noone}

history and review
12 November 2000
This was a land mark game in its time and is still a joy to play. at the time of release there was controversy over the blood content, but it laid the moral ground work for such titles as the resident evil series. It is just a pity that such a classic has been tarnished by many bad sequels such as mythologies or special forces.

buy it!
12 November 2000
No game will ever give you a better feeling of being there. The feeling of running behind an enemy's back who could kill you in an instant, blowing up an entire tank with just a hand full of granades, facing down a HIND D attack helicopter on top of a comms tower, nothing like it. "BUY IT NOW YOU FOOL"!!!
