Dune: Part Two (2024)

Not everything is perfect

While the movie is great, fun, visually outstanding, and meticulously done, I was expecting more.

I must say the adaptation, in general was very good, but there were some letdown moments:

I think Christoper Walken was miscast. He looks too old, tired and does not resemble the book emperor. Zendaya overplayed the role. The chemistry is barely existent between she and Chalamet and she acted like a little inmature. Her rants are not credible and I think she was not good enough for the role.

The harkonnen world was quite plain, without force, without creating horror or fear, just plain, color washing was not enough to portray Giedi Prime. Feyd battle in the arena was emotionless, and so so.

I know the book in the book feels rushed but it hasnt to be that way in the movie. We could have enjoyed 15 minutes more in the final battle. Beating harkonnen and sardukar was an oportunity for big visuals and a vision that the book give the chance to do. Suddenly, Sardukar and Harkonnen were just paper tigers...

And the music, I barely noticed it. I am a big fan of Hans Zimmer. No bombastic theme, or spine chilling arrangments...

Of course is a very good movie and great production but we were expecting perfection.

Knock at the Cabin (2023)

First scenes are promising, but no more...

This movie was boring, as it overstays its welcome. Lot of talking, some forced inclusion and some seconds of cheap "apocaliptic" scenes and that's it, that is all the movie has. Not terrifying, not action, some weak drama, not cinematic experience, just really nothing. Big let down.

The movie starts promising. The first minutes are intriguing and point to something big, but eventually that never happens. As the movie dwells on talking and talking, some flashbacks the ultimately leads to very very weak ending.

The only worthy thing is the action of Dave Bautista and the little girl. No more.

Blacklight (2022)

Dissapointing and cheap

We all love Liam Neeson, but we have to accept his prime time is no longer. And this movie shows that.

The movie is like a cardboard set where you realize that there is almost no budget: fake shots, underwhelming car chase, long boring dialogue, cheap and unrealistic sets, etc.

And by the way, one very disappointing ending. Rushed, hollow and anticlimatic. Liam Neeson should retire.

Predator (1987)

This is how you make a good action movie

It is hard not to love Predator. This is a master class about how a good action movie is made. Simple enough but very well crafted. Believable acting, practical effects, good gore when needed, outdoor filming, good hardware, good and no plot-hole story, suspenseful, right pacing, etc. I have always liked Arnold style, but here, he shines above.

Decades ago this move was filmed, still feel fresh and way above many current superproductions. Highly recommended.

Greyhound (2020)

Good production but no more

Well, this is first a well done, round movie, but although it is nicely crafted it lacks punch. It is totally underwhelming. There are several things I disliked: music is generic, CGI is obvious in some vessels and sequences, romance part feels forced, warfare lacks punch, it feels repetitive (specially at the bridge) and you do not get to really care for the characters...

It is a good movie to enjoy one time an that is all. And average Tom Hanks work.

Baskin (2015)

Good imagery and that is all

This movie is well done and acted, in line with regular hollywood movies. It has a slow beginning but at the middle is gets interesting. The end is quite weak. The best are the images of people suffering in hell. This is a pop corn movie and if you like good scenery and some blood then it is ok.

The Black Hole (1979)

A must have movie,

Several years ago I saw this movie, was beyond all my child expectations, but now, still the same. The dark sense, the loneless, the devil robot, and many things make this a very very good movie. We do not have to realize that there are some scientific errors, just see the movie and feel it is great! An unforgettable image: the Cygnus ship stopped in front of the black hole...

A must have.
