Vivarium (2019)
Think Black Mirror, in isolation
Definitely a movie to provoke thought (probably why so many people don't like it - no sex, no million dollar action scenes).
Sometimes a film is better if it is not completely laid out for you, and you have to put 2 & 2 together. Saying that, this was not hard to follow at all.
It was very eerie.
Another Life (2019)
Bring me a chip fork, so I might smite my eyes
This is more like some teen sci-fi show. Bad script, bad actors, bad idea!
They cancel shows like Colony, and then make dross like this?
Do these production company's have no respect for their target audiences?
U-571 (2000)
They've done it again...
Maybe someone can help me understand.
Why...oh why... do the Americans have to re-write history??
It should (I hope) be well known that the Royal Navy captured the first Enigma machine. And that the US navy had little to do with Enigma until the end of the war.
So do the script writers believe that the American public are too ignorant to watch a film that isn't about Americans? Or, is it because they have so little history, that they have to steal it from other nations?
Whatever the answer, it is a slur on the great British sailors who died for there country, only to be written out of the history books by some ignoramus who wants to sell movies.
If you want to see a far superior version, buy Wolfgang Peterson's 'Das Boot'. Far more exciting, far more realism, and no American glory stealing scenes!
Or if you like to watch a make-believe American history film, rent this, along with The Great Escape (no Americans where in the camp) or Braveheart (oh, please!) and The Patriot (need I say more!).
Circus (2000)
Hilarious film - much better than Snatch
This film was a breath of fresh air. I won't go into plot details, as they have been divulged already. But Eddie Izzard was most amusing, and I was also surprised with Brian Conley, who I usually hate, who portrayed a villain with ease.
John Hannah was very well cast as the laid back, likeable crook.
After watching Snatch (which I thought was an entertaining, but well off-par sequel to Lock Stock) it was refreshing change to see Circus. Admittedly, it isn't as good as Lock Stock, but doesn't try to run in the same lane. It's good old off-beat comedy.
This film will not be liked by Americans for two reasons.
1) It contains irony & sarcasm
2) It is an English film with English actors
Maybe this is why we don't do very well at the Oscars!!
