A Bunch of Amateurs (2008)
Charming British film - well worth seeing
After reading some of the other reviews I wonder what you expect from a nice little English movie. Burt Reynolds was great, but Imelda Staunton was exceptional. She was hilarious in all her scenes and we laughed out loud. It's very British set in a very British setting.
If you liked Calendar Girls you'll like this. It's not great art, just great entertainment with a really good British cast, and an ageing but nevertheless very entertaining Burt Reynolds. Burt Reynolds who I must admit I did not think could act was quite good throughout and delivered his Shakespeare well. If there was one criticism it would be the scenes in the US were not brilliantly shot
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008)
This film is the worst I have seen in years
I must firstly thank IMDb for rating this film at the moment 7.6 out of ten. This high rating hides how appalling this movie is. Not only is it not funny but the script and slapstick are juvenile and at times crude. The language and sexual content used in the film is also excessive. A stripping transsexual in front of two children is not a funny scene. I do not write reviews but after seeing this and being swayed by the rating of this film I wonder is the IMDb now only being viewed by the 12-14 American pie generation who laugh when an adult says any swear or curse word. Finally if you know anyone who loves this film avoid them they would scare me.
About a Boy (2002)
Thought I would hate it
The sort of movie your girlfriend makes you see and you hate it. i was very surprised Hugh Grant was genuinely funny and the movie had a couple of high points in it. The scene where HG sings Killing me softly on guitar and backing out of being a childs godfather because he was self centred and shallow - Some predictable crap and what a watse of rachel Weisz the most pointless part she has ever played all in all though great sat afternoon time wasting.
