Hidalgo (2004)
Almost as good as Lawrence of Arabia.
The Indian scenes at the beginning made for a rather slow start to the movie but once it moved to the dessert, for me, it was terribly gripping and exciting, even if you felt you knew the outcome. Good acting by the cast, especially my favourite Omar Sharif. I follow this man from movie to movie and he never lets me down. Although I felt the sand tidal wave was computerised, it was an absolutely fantastic effect as was many of the horse scenes depicted. There were many other fantastic photographic scenes which complimented the vastness of the dessert. A well made movie.

Evergreen (1985)
Evergreen has all the essential ingredients to stimulate one's appetite.
I loved Evergreen. Enjoyed the story line and much work went into choosing the actors for the characters they played. There were quite a few new faces at the time Evergreen was made who went on to make bigger and better movies. Ian McShane was one. He is so handsome and one look from him, makes you melt. A very versatile actor. Armand Assante played a brilliant part as Joseph Friedman with such powerful acting and Lesley Ann Warren also as a relatively newcomer to the screen. I wish they would replay this mini series in Australia again. It has been too long.
Out of Africa (1985)
I liken Redford/Streep to Tracy/Hepburn.
Of course, the big screen always adds romance, depth and dimension to a country like Africa. Sydney Pollack does this brilliantly. His direction in the scenes with Redford and Streep always leaves my skin tingling, much the same as what Spencer Tracy did with Katherine Hepburn. I wish more movies were made in this way. The chemistry between Redford and Streep is cleverly done with the use of our imagination. It is such a good story, I will be seeing it again on the 12th August at the Astor for the 22nd time. Cheers.
