Boy, Girl and NO Kiss
13 October 2000
I enjoyed this movie very much: A "Lovestory" without a single kiss seems to be impossible. But Tom Tywker proves its not! If you hope, "empress" Sissi and "warrior" Bodo will get together easily, you' re wrong. It needs 129 Minutes and many unexpected turns.

The Melting Pot
27 July 2000
I' m not used to watching Slapstick Movies. I also miss all the romantic Comedys. But the combined types make this film extraordinarily good. Plus the movie plays with clichés, so you think you know exactly what will be on screen the next second (because you believe you have seen it in many movies), but the scene turns and you see unexpected solutions.

This combination of new solutions and the old genres is great.

Do not expect to see a custom Disneymovie
23 July 2000
This movie has many features in common with a custom Disneymovie: Its equipped with perfect animation and layout, great music and well-known Disneystars as Mickey or Donald. But the little toons do not speak or even sing as we' re used to: Not a single word is heard, when the music starts.

If you have seen the Original from 1940, you may think now the movie won' t surprise you in any way. But did you expect to take a comic (s)trip to New York in Al-Hirschfeld-style, listening to George Gershwins "Rhapsody in Blue"? Annoyingly the movie is very short and the stars commenting the following sequence unnecessariely shorten the musical parts of the movie. I also disliked the obvious computeranimation in the whale-sequence and the plastic look of the toys (traditionally made of wood or tin!!!) in the tin-soldier-sequence. Nevertheless I like the movie as a whole because of its great music and the fit of storys and music. Besides most storys are unexpected associations. For example at Saint-Saens "Carnival des Animaux" were you can see what happens, if flamingos and a jojo are put together. So if you like classical music and you liked the Disney-characters in younger years, you will enjoy this movie, even though this film isn' t common disneystyle.

Should this movie be taken serious ???
25 June 2000
German Critics wrote about this movie "Men aren' t able to like this film!" I have seen it and I confirm it. But I have to add, that the female audience laughed much more about this movie then the male. It seems that the (in the US) forbidden advertisement poster was no provocation but an announcement: This movie contains exactly that stuff, horny boys pay their bucks for. In addition the movie provides many trivialities about men, women and their relationships, I don' t consider to be correct or even important. If it wasn' t a woman who had directed this movie, I would call it a dirty mind of an old man. I hope the crude dialogs were a result of the translation - otherwise even the especial point of view (in the abstract!) and the exceptional roles (e. g. man has no sexual desire, instead his girlfriend) couldn' t save this movie from being pure crap.
