The Next Karate Kid (1994)
Not as bad as I expected
When I first saw this movie was included in the Karate Kid DVD Set, I almost thought about just buying Karate Kid by itself. But after watching it, I really enjoyed it. It was really cheesy at parts, but other parts were enjoyable and funny.
Miyagi is great as usual, which is the main reason I even bothered to watch the movie in the first place. This movie is worth at least a one-time viewing if you really liked the Karate Kid movies.
Hillary Swank did a pretty good job too. The plot was pretty hoaky, and it was similar to the first Karate Kid, but there was a different dynamic since the hero was a girl this time.
Alfie (2004)
Very Uninspiring
The movie started out alrite and Alfie was an interesting character at first. The way he talks to us watching the movie and his boyish charm were fun for the first 15 minutes. But then you realize that this format stays the same and it loses its effect and the movie becomes very long.
It seemed like there was no point to the movie, he just moved from one woman to another and it was always the same thing. At the end all the women had moved on while he tried to reconnect and it just wasn't moving. The scene with his kid wasn't moving either. The whole movie just seemed bland.
I wouldn't recommend watching this movie unless you like pointless movies or are a Jude Law/Alfie fan.
Stick to Jim Carrey :)
Field of Dreams (1989)
A moving movie for any guy who loves baseball and his dad
This movie is my favorite sports movie. The plot is awesome, the baseball scenery is amazing. The history of the game comes alive in the movie, and the story of Shoeless Joe and the Black Sox is brought back to life. The movie is very emotional for me especially when Doc Graham sacrifices his dreams to save Karen's life and also at the end when Ray Kinsella plays catch with his dad. The music is so beautiful and causes strong emotions to form.
If your dad taught you how to play baseball, this movie will move you. If you love baseball history, you will like this movie. Even if you don't, you will still like this movie.
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
Terrible movie
I loved Dumb and Dumber with a passion. All of my jokes came from that movie and I still say them even today. So when I saw the trailer in the theatres with Harry and Lloyd just laughing, before they said what movie it was I was jumping up and down in my seat I already knew! So I was excited the whole summer, then saw the movie, and it just stunk. If you want to watch this movie because of the original, forget it...it's not worth it. I will give the new movie another shot and see if it's still as bad or not, but I expect it will still suck. There were some funny parts, the bus was great. Bob saget and the American Pie dad were cool too. The guys who played Harry and Lloyd did a good job with their characters, but the movie just wasn't good and not all that funny
A Season on the Brink (2002)
A good initial effort by ESPN
This film was a highly anticipated one for me, partly due to all of the hype created by ESPN and because it was based on the real life character Bobby Knight. The movie had it's own style to it, with clips of actual Hoosier footage inserted into the acting, which in a way resembled the style of Forrest Gump. This film, in my opinion, is a "watch-one-time" movie because most of the good parts were given away by the commercials and it basically displayed what most of us sports buffs knew about Bob Knight anyways.
Plus: Profane language added realism and brought a new perspective to the reality of the Knight regime
Minus: It was a fairly uninteresting film, unless you are a devout
Hoosier fan
In sum, good work ESPN, don't quit your day job, but try to make a couple more good films.
Spaceballs (1987)
One of my favourites
Spaceballs is a hilarious movie, the first time I saw it which was when I was about 8 I think. I've seen it a billion times since, and the humor has slowly started to fade, but it's still funny. Unfortunately, I saw this movie before watching Star Wars, which it was obviously spoofed on, so only now am I beginning to understand all the corny jokes. If you have never seen this movie, I recommend watching it..if you like stupid comedy, like dumb and dumber, etc...you will like this movie!!
