Family Resemblances (1996)

A very French comedy

This French comedy is one of the best of the last years with "On connait la chanson" & "Le diner de cons". I believe that this movie should be very difficult to understand for non-french people or for those who don't know very well our humor. Personally, I love this movie and the actors who are playing in it. Particularly Jean Pierre Bacri with his mimics and his faculty to be hilarious. He has written the script with Agnes Jaoui and this is not a surprise to see that they've succeeded in writting an excellent comedy. In fact they have written many scripts together and they were often very good movies. As many as the others French comedies, I don't know what is the result with the english translation, but I think you should watch it in french version because a good part of the actors play's is in their way of talking and their voice intonation's. And this is very difficult to translate.

French Fried Vacation 2 (1979)

The French touch

This second movie of the team from the Splendid (a french theater) is as interesting as their first "Les Bronzes". Many jokes and many hilarious shots. The style of the movie is pretty the same than the first but is not a bad imitation. You could see the two movies one after the others (this is an advice) and appreciate them at their true worth.

The fame of these movies is so great that in France, it is very usual to meet people who have seen them more than ten times. The success of the the actors is so good that they have made many movies after these ones and many of them were very good. (For example: "le pere noel est une ordure")

French Fried Vacation (1978)

The classic french movie comedy

This movie is one of the most important comedy in France. Almost everybody in France know one or several sentences of it. If you want to make some joke with a French guy, you could try to learn some of the principal sentences of the movie and you could be sure that he will laugh. The movie is adapted from the stage, and the play was very succesful for many months. So, every shot have been studied to be hilarious. There are not at all any breaks. Of course, if you could understand French, I will advise you to see the French Version because the jokes could be not as good in English. In conclusion, I would also advise you to see the second movie from the same team: "Les Bronzes Font du Ski" which is at least as excellent as the first.

Run Lola Run (1998)

A German movie

It's not very usual to see a german movie in France. In fact, it's the first time that I've seen one since I started to go to the cinema once a week (or more). More over all the critics were very good. That's why I was very interested about this movie and yeah this is a great movie. One of the best ten of the year 1999 that I've seen.

Almost everything was very good. Many very good ideas. Even the soundtrack, which was "techno" (an european music ) I don't like very much this kind of music but, in this movie, it sounds particularly well.

The story of the movie is very original and is quite difficult to explain. So I prefer to say nothing and let you discover it (if you could). My comment may be not very efficient to convince you to see this movie but if you need one good reason to see it, look at the votes on imdb.

Dobermann (1997)

A great french movie

Dobermann is one of the greatest french movies of the past two years. First of all, the production is exceptionnal with some very original and nice shots. In addition, we can see two great French performers: Vincent Cassel and Romain Duris who have made a lot of good films and often with good directors. We could also say that the scénario is pretty good and the soundtrack excellent. If you are not convinced, you could at least see the first part of the movie (10 mn) before the presentation of all the names. This part is really great and the FX effects are really somptuous.
