Captain Star (1997–1998)
A great little show
25 February 2001
'Captain Star' is a strange one, and yet, it's highly entertaining. The animation style is unique, with a whole slew of wierd aliens and mutants and who-knows-what appearing time to time. Captain Star himself is a hoot, if you ask me. The feel of the show is mature and relaxed, but still appropriate for kids and folks with a sense of humor. The creators definitely had good imagination when coming up with each episode, and the creativity shows. This is one Teletoon in Canada, unfortunately, airs the shows at late night, making it a little hard to watch, but if you can stay up late enough, you'll be in for a treat.

One of Disney's best films
25 February 2001
I used to watch this film all the time when I was little, but after that, I kind of grew out of Disney, claiming it to be nothing but kiddie garbage. Later on, I watched it again as a mature teenager, and I found I was mistaken. 'Beauty and the Beast' is a gem in the sometimes-tarnished crown of Disney films. Although it departs quite a bit from the original faery tale, the voice acting, animation, and all-around feel sill brings back memories of my early childhood, when everything seemed magical. The best and most brilliant preformance is definetly that of the Beast. The songs, especially the title theme and Belle's main song, are unforgettable and some very catchy. The only thing I didn't like is Gaston, who seems a wee bit too flat a character (and he's a jerk, too). Anyone who loves animation, Disney, or just wants to watch a good movie should take a look at this.

Trigun (1998)
One of the best anime shows around!
24 February 2001
Out of all the anime I've watched, this has got to be one of the coolest. I never really liked westerns that much, but Trigun is something different. The characters are very likeable (Vash is the MAN!), the animation is great (for TV standards), and the music really sets the scene. Some parts make me howl with laughter (Vash diving off the roof to peek through a girl's window), and others make me want to cry (Wolfwood's story). The action is executed very nicely, even better than some American films I've seen. Not only that, but the Trigun dub is probably the best I've seen (Kudos to Pioneer)! Anyone who likes anime should definetly see this!

Another great film from the NFB
24 February 2001
Well, the National Film Board of Canada's done it again. 'Village of Idiots' is a strange, yet charming little film which takes place in a tiny Polish village. The people there aren't too bright, thus the town's nickname, 'the Village of Idiots'. The animation is very unique, created using many layers of cut-out paper figures and illustrations, a strange beauty which many NFB films have become famous for. The whole mix-up which Schmendrick (the main character) makes is very funny, and it makes you think a little. It's a small film, but it's got big value. See it!
