The Mike Douglas Show: Episode #17.217 (1978)
recollection of this show
I was 18 years old at the time this show aired, and had been a fan of Todd Rundgren and Utopia for just about eight months. I remember being surprised that Todd & Utopia were actually appearing on Mike Douglas's show. But then again, the show was based in Philly, which is close to where Todd grew up (Upper Darby, PA), so I guess that kind of explained things. I recall that Mike Douglas appeared to be quite fascinated by John "Willie" Wilcox's motorcycle-based drum kit. And there was an excellent performance of "Love is the Answer" by Utopia (from the "Oops! Wrong Planet" LP), which would soon be covered by England Dan and John Ford Cooley.
The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
I gave it a "4"
I really wanted to like this movie more than I did. It had great potential, considering the cast and the director. But I feel its biggest downfall was the script, which I think tried to combine the comic elements and thriller/suspense stuff way too much. The dark side was too dark to match the laughs. This film couldn't decide what it wanted to be -- funny or tense/scary, and by the end I had nearly forgotten about any of the plot twists. I felt this was too contrived. Nice acting, but otherwise a huge disappointment.
