Stella Does Tricks (1996)
Disturbing and Delightful
This film is truly remarkable both in storyline and acting. Kelly MacDonald excels as under age prostitute Stella whilst James Bolam is creepily superb as her pimp. The story centres around Stella in London and her two roles as prostitute and outgoing young woman. There are also flashbacks of her childhood in Glasgow before she moved to London to become a prostitute. Sex scenes are not graphic but perhaps seem more disturbing due to this. This film is a truly thought provoking delight covering many sub plots including drugs. Well worth a look
Scum (1979)
Brutal, Shocking and Truly Brilliant
The Late Alan Clarke's finest work. Ray Winstone is excellent as Carlin, while Phil daniels is brilliant as always. Mick Ford,Tony London and Martin Phillips are all convincing in their roles. As with all of Clarke's films it has plenty of social comment and realism. Watch it you'll find fewer compelling, thought provoking and moving films.
Gregory's Girl (1980)
Sheer poetry in film
Simply one of the most magnificent films ever made. Witty and intelligent underestimate the sheer craft and ingenuiety of Forsyth's finest work to date. Probably the finest he will ever. John Gordon Sinclair gives the role of Gregory like a dream as if it was written for him. Gregory is a very similar role to that played by Peter Capaldi in Forsyth's follow up Local Hero which is a sound piece of work. Dee Hepburn has a wonderful. Simply watch it as it will move you strangely.
