Leave the World Behind (2023)
My "post". Watch for an eye roll.
Who approved this poorly written script? Who Directed this poorly made film? Who produced this train wreck of a movie? Answer: People who shouldn't be making films with great actors. Proof that a great cast can be misguided into making a terribly executed movie. The characters are false and the scenes are terrible.
An obvious ripoff of Jordan Peele. HE is a great film maker!
I laughed out loud more than having any emotion connection to this mistake of a movie. It mocks intelligent movie fans while pandering to critics who collect tolls.
Don't believe the propaganda from certain news outlets who have a vested interest!
11 Minutes (2022)
An emotional series that doesn't shine any light on the motive
The route 91 act of terror of Oct 1 (911) is well made and shines a light on the horrors of the day. The first responders are true heroes and the series supports that fact with great strength. However, the elephant in the room has always been the missing hard drive. A laptop was reportedly taken from the hotel where the guns were fired with a "missing" hard drive and the series didn't cover that important detail. There are other unanswered questions which include why the ISIS admission was dismissed and why there were so many false calls made about other shooters. There is either a coverup or the guy is a serial(mass) killer for the new DNA age. Accordingly, 11 minutes should have touched on some of the possible motives and coverup theories. Still a must see!
Das weiße Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte (2009)
Terribly Brilliant
No answers, just suffering. Not many directors can put together a brilliant cast and crew so cynically. I was captivated and then let down but never frustrated. With MH, the joke is always on us. Accordingly, this is an instant art house classic. There are glimpses of cinematic mass appeal but those don't last. The ribbon never completely ties around the package.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Propaganda!
A sell-out to one side of the nation's anger. The message in this movie is warped by current, angry, politics. It began as a 10 and ended way below a 1. Respect for Lee as a filmmaker but not for the blanketed political finger pointing.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Muskrat Love
Where is the captain when you need him?
I expected to hear Muskrat Love as the credits rolled. The movie would have been stronger. Lol.
A Quiet Place (2018)
It's a timely allegory
This film is an allegory for everyone who is afraid to speak up in a climate that will potentially kill them... or their career. It is timely and brilliant. Yes, including the exposed nail, healthy crops, choice to have a child, choice of living location and death of a child at the end of the line.
Bravo!
Unsane (2018)
Disappointed
A great movie failed beacuase of null story beats and pretentious camera placement. Wanted to love this one. The gimmick overshadowed the opportunity.
My Friend Dahmer (2017)
Well done despite the parents.
I enjoyed this twisted insight into the early life of Dahmer; however, it suffers a little from the light weight performances from his mother and father. Unfortunately, I thought of SNL during their scenes together.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Make it stop!
Ha! Where to start?
First of all, I am not a professional critic but I do work in the entertainment business. I am not motivated by politics or corporate positioning and have no vested interest in this or other films competing in the current marketplace. With that said, this is a pretentious experiment that only daft art school students and guilty "professional" critics can appreciate. Fans of the theater will find it amusing for the first hour until it begins to feel like Ground Hog Day meets All That Jazz, orchestrated by Paul Thomas Anderson's nails on a chalkboard.
Performances: Exactly what you would expect from talented actors but the fun ends there.
Creativity: A one trick pony, think Hitchcock's Rope without the fun, that will make you want to get the heck out of the "theater". Keep in mind, you need to avoid seeing this if you get motion sickness. Cotton mouth, here it comes!
Execution: As an example of what can be done in and around a Broadway theater, with a "single" take, it succeeds only as an experimental museum piece. Even then, most folks would walk out before the end.
It's one of the most pointless, sluggish, and taxing experiences you will have in the theater.
