Hannibal (2001)
Perfect
Stop thinking about the first one for 5 seconds, and you'll realize this film is as perfect as a sequel can get. It was beautifully shot and extremely well done. From that standpoint it was far superior to its predecessor. Hannibal was played perfectly of course, and Julianne Moore was Clarice Starling.. not Clarice Starling number 2. You won't notice the difference unless you consistenly remind yourself and compare her to Jodie Foster the whole movie. The story flowed much better than the first one, because the original had too many subplots that all tied in at the end at not well enough during the middle. Hannibal has one continuous story, the search for Hannibal, the subplot being the multiple people finding him and their reasons. They all tie in together though, and are all used to lead up to the ending. Ahh the ending. The dinner scene is one of the most creative scenes in recent memory. Though extremely grotesque, it was perfect for the mood of the film and added a bit of dark humor to it. It ends perfectly, leaving you with more to think about than the original. Ebert has lost his flare for reviewing, and I don't know what he bases anything on anymore. He's entitled to his opinion, but he's respected and listened to by too many people that great films won't get the recognition they deserve anymore. Don't listen to Ebert or any other bad review you may read. You will enjoy this movie, even more so if you've never seen the original. Not because its better, but because you won't find yourself comparing the two the whole time instead of enjoying the film. 9/10
The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald: Scared Silly (1998)
FUNNY!!!!
You may not believe it, but this movie was EXTREMELY funny. And I don't mean it was funny because it was bad, it wasn't bad at all. It was surprisingly very well done and very funny. Some of the jokes were a bit much, and almost made it deserve an PG Rating or higher, but most stay out of the gutter and sexual joke area. If you enjoy the humor in such classics as Ghostbusters and American Beauty, you will LOVE this film and I guarantee you will want to purchase it right away.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Incredible
Its this kind of movie that lets you know the beauty of the world. Although its kind of ironic that almost all of the movie takes place in a prison, the one place in the world where you'd think you'd be restricted from it. Just seeing it once lets you walk away from it with the biggest feeling of joy, no matter how upset you are about anything else, at that time, that one time, nothing in the world matters. Once its seen more than once, you soon begin to realize all the other side stories and ideas in the movie. It seems that every line in the film has some hidden meaning that you love to try and find. You'll find yourself returning home every night, and staying up, no matter how tired you are, to watch it again. The acting is great, and has made Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman my two favorite actors alongside Kevin Spacey. The movie gives you the feeling that all the men in the jail were imprisoned wrongly and that they are all innocent, but its only because they are actually people and you grow to like and understand them. The ending is very surprising, and rates among the best endings ever with "The Usual Suspects", "The Game", and "The Sixth Sense." The movie is incredible. It is an absloute masterpiece in every way possible. The acting, the directing, the writing, everything. The narrating by Morgan Freeman, who plays Red, is incredible and a story in its own. The only movie i know of that can honorably sit alongside this .. is "American Beauty". This film is the greatest movie ever, don't listen to anyone else. When you see it you will believe it, you will understand. " So after first meeting him, i guess you could say that I liked Andy from the start." - Red.
No rating could justify this movie. Perfect.
Return to Horror High (1987)
My head hurts violently and the janitor is still a mystery
You just don't even want to know. wow. Oh and I'm saying this is a spoiler just in case I say something or whatever. You start up the movie and you laugh at the exploding breast and John Travolta running around. Zany stuff. But then you reach the end, and we just watched this in 99'.. we are not the foolish nancy boys of the 80's we know all our stuff. So we see the end, and we just have no idea what happened. You go through the whole movie thinking you know what is going on, you just don't at all. We sat through the last 20 minutes of twists and scary Old Man Winter.... silently just having no idea what the hell had happened. We talked for over an hour after that trying to figure out what had happened. wow. So if you want to laugh you should see this, but be prepared to sit up trying to understand it and watching it over and over it all night. Maybe he is right... and they made it to confuse you. Nobody knows. Like the line in the movie goes....... Trying to understand this movie..... "is like trying to polish a terd."
