American History X (1998)
An important breathtaking masterpiece
This powerful drama left me stunned for days after seeing it. It deals with the horrible problem of racism but without taking sides. It is a thought provoking lesson for us as humans to learn. As a movie it is amazingly done, brilliantly acted by one of the greatest young actors of the 90's - Eduard norton (who was nominated for an oscar and should have won, in my opinion). A Masterpiece you'll never forget. excellent.
Braveheart (1995)
Easily the best movie i ever saw
No, i am not exaggerating with this statement. Mel gibson did an excellent job delivering a movie that takes you on a journey throughout the wide range of the emotions - from laughs to tears to thrills and even to romance. If you are the last person alive who hasn't seen this one - wait no longer, you'll agree with me. A Movie bigger then life.
Hoop Dreams (1994)
A fascinating piece of work
I must say that I'm not a big basketball fan, but this is not a documentary about basketball. It is a stunning and heartbreaking look at two young NBA players wannabes. It is a reminder that life is truly more amazing then any fiction. Beautifully made. Recommended.
Bound by Honor (1993)
amazing
Rarely in my life I find myself glued to my seat for an entire movie, not to mention to one over 3 hours long one. This is one I did so twice: once 6 years years ago and the second time about a year ago. I love the work of Taylor Heckford, he is a great storyteller and a brilliant director.
Although the acting is somewhat blown up, and the movie suffers from over sentimentalism from time to time, it is still nothing less than outstanding and erosive.
Out of Sight (1998)
One of my favorite movies in 1998
If you loved "get shorty" and "jackie brown" you're in for a treat. this is a delightful combination of the both. The chemistry between george clooney and jennifer lopez is so rarely seen explosive, and the love scene between them is one of the most romantic moments i have ever seen on screen. wonderful movie. highly recommended.
Chasing Amy (1997)
nothing less then excellent
The third installment of the "new jersey" trio is by far the best one. a funny and honest look at the dynamics of relationships between friends and lovers. small and touching, very well acted (jason lee is an undiscovered great talent). The kind of movies you never forget. a must see!
