WMD: Weapon of Mass Destruction (2004)
Well made but a good deal of rehash.
First off I'd like to point out that elvis68's review is by far more "op/ed" than review of this film. It main purpose seems to serve his political ideal, and not to help a reader on deciding if the film is worth it. It's also a bit wrong.
As for the film, It's not a right or left piece. It's only meant to show the viewer (and accurately so), the reasons the coalition went in to Iraq. If you have already kept up with any of the reasons, then you will find that most of the information is the same stuff laid out with new footage. It's good for anybody who really didn't pay much attention to the reasons for the past five or six years. The editing, sound, and picture quality are done very well considering this was a very tight budget indie film. Those involved did a very good job in not trying to be political from whatever their viewpoints are. All in all, I would say 7 out of 10.
Huo zhe (1994)
What most of you have seen is a cut version.
I watched this version tonight and noticed that this almost perfect file is now cut (or hacked would be a better word) and ruined for me. I watched this film when it was new on an import laserdisc back in late '94 or early '95. The version I saw was just 2 minutes shy of 4 hours. The orginal laserdisc's were in CAV format and there were 8 of them in a beautiful red and black box with the shadow puppets on the front of it. Does anybody know where to find this or if the full version is on dvd? Just remember, if you havent seen the full version then you have NOT seen this film.
Lekce Faust (1994)
Art house film.
This film is wonderful. It is a very creative piece and a unique version of Goethe's Faust (not the play). It is made to appeal to those who enjoy art house film's. In America I would say 99 out of 100 people would dislike or even hate it, simply because it's really odd. It's really meant for those who want to see a story unfold in an abnormal light. As to the previous comment about the dubbing, It was not redubbed in english. The seven lines were orginaly recorded in english and the over-dubbed sound is part of the surreal effect that was intended to be there. If you havent seen it, then I'll give an example. Imagine a lump of clay hitting the ground. *thud* Now in Faust it goes *THUD-BUMP-SPLAT* with other little sounds. Very different but the sound helps get the idea accross.
