Who Dares Wins (1982)
The British SAS battle terrorism
This movie was one of the first to describe or portray the deft skill of the S.A.S. Britain's foremost special forces. This movie is quite good, but, like any other movie has its weak points. The story is based on terrorists who take control of an embassy in London and a SAS soldier who infiltrates them to thwart their plot. Quite good in parts.
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
They don't make them like this anymore.
They dont make them like this anymore. Burton and Eastwood make this Alistar MacLean story unforgetable. Of all WWII movies this has to be in the top 3. Burton gives a great performance in this story as Major John Smith. While it is a long movie, the viewer is never bored with suspense that is never ending.
The Negotiator (1998)
Incredible Plot and Great suspense
This movie will hopefully usher in an era of movies for people with brains. All to often new movies are written so that a dog could watch and understand it. The result is that a plot suffers. You have to actively watch this movie to catch everything that goes on.
The acting was great, SLJ and Kevin Spacey play off each other very well.
See it See it See it.
The Right Stuff (1983)
This movie has the Right Stuff
This movie is simply great. The cast is superb.
The docu-drama of the challenges faced by the United States in breaking the sound barrier and then the astronaut selection process.
If you like 'flying' movies this one is a must see movie.
Valentine's Day (1998)
Predictable, formula, gangster-cop movie
I had to cut this movie some slack when I realized that it was a TV movie. Then I smartened up and thought they deserve what they get. This momentary lapse was perhaps caused by a vague bias towards Mario Van Pebbles. Its a bit of a shame he can't can't act any better. The movie is a cop-mob movie not an action movie. It has a couple of sex scenes which are fairly explicit, to distract you from the mediocre nature of the movie. While the makers didn't do a great job, they didn't screw anything up either. They played it safe.
Jack & Jill (1998)
Not a romantic comedy!
This movie is a study of an average relationship. Which has its ups and downs (mostly downs). All the characters are great. While I personally didn't find Jack all that appealing, he played his role well. The women in the movie seemed flawless in their characters portrayal. If you like movies which tend to be a bit harder, realistic, and deeper, then this movie would be a good choice.
Laserhawk (1997)
A Lame movie
Teens battle Aliens for the sake of the earth. Enough said.
I found no redeeming qualities in this movie, except for Mark Hamill. I was surprised he was part of a less than mediocre film like this one. But I guess it pays the bills.
The plot is along the lines of Teen-X-Files meets The Last Star fighter.
Too many terrible moments to list them all. And as for good parts ....I don't remember any.
8MM (1999)
Not Cages best, but still very gripping tale.
The movie is a mystery where Cage plays an Investigator trying to ascertain the validity or authenticity of an 8mm film. Overall the film, is quite well done. However,I found that some scenes at the start of the movie were somewhat weak. Like when Cage watches the film. I am sure many will not agree. I feel that a person like Cage would be 'hardened' enough to handle the film better than he did.
Having said that, the rest of the film draws the viewer in superbly. Suspense is masterfully created. Well worth watching. 8/10
The Spanish Prisoner (1997)
Good potential, but doesn't deliver.
This movie was a great disappointment. The plot held for great turns and twists. Unfortunately, the movie turns out to be quite transparent and predictable, with many unbelievable aspects to the plot.
If Cabin Boy isn't available to rent, I guess this will do.
