The Beautician and the Beast (1997)
Surprised me.
I have never been able to watch Fran Drescher for any length of time. That being said, this movie surprised me. I actually watched it and enjoyed it. Once I figured out what it was, I didn't have any great expectations. This movie is not meant to be earth shattering but merely a pleasant diversion. That it was. Fran actually did some acting at times. Of course, I understand that this is mostly an extension of "The Nanny" but I never watched the show all the way through so I wasn't making comparisons. It had some funny moments and the Yuri character was very enjoyable. All in all, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it for anyone who would like a pleasant diversion and not be forced to think a lot.
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
One of the worst I've seen.
This was one of the worst 4 or 5 movies that I have ever seen. I heard a strange noise in the middle and realized it was Dr. Seuss rolling over in his grave. I would like to publicly apologize to his memory that I spent the money to take my 3 boys to see this mess. Unfortunately, they liked it and I couldn't leave early.
The Visual Bible: Matthew (1993)
Best Ever
By far the best biblical movie I have ever seen. The strict adherence of the script word for word with the Bible was unique and wonderful. Bruce Marchiano's portrayal of Jesus was amazing and truly brought out the magnificence of the Lord.
A Christmas Story (1983)
Best Ever!!!
As far as I am concerned, this is the best Christmas movie ever.
The character of Ralphie is just priceless and the narration is wonderful. I can still remember specific lines from the movie that can make me laugh. Great for the entire family.
Wild Wild West (1999)
Slow it down!
Whatever happened to plot or character development? They tried to cram in too many unbelievable special effects and didn't bother to develop the characters. The one scene around the campfire was a poor attempt to give background information on the main character. It was too short and extremely unemotional. Everything went too fast and it was difficult to follow exactly what was going on. The television show was better at plot and character development on a weekly basis than this movie. Will Smith was very likeable as Jim West. Kevin Kline certainly had potential as Artemus Gordon but he came off as a whiner. Salma Hayak appeared to be a plot device with two main purposes. #1- Give the agents clues without them having to spend any time working for them. This allowed more time for overdone special effects. #2- A consistent source of cleavage!!! This movie was certainly obsessed with breasts.
All in all, I was highly disappointed. What a great potential with the actors and the history of the TV show. Unfortunately the director seems to have decided that special effects are all that sells movies today.
