Central do Brasil (1998)
it's Brasil, I think.
"Central Station", worth being recognized as one of the best foreign films, describes current Brazilian ideology and life style in the din and bustle central city, and other various! country views which include endless plain, thorough the breathtaking story. The friendship is quite moving to tears. But from my stand point, I prefer to focus on the description of Brazil that is not just beautiful, but so impressive that makes me have in mind not to go there without any determinations.
Rashômon (1950)
the writer is also superb!
"RASHOMON" is brilliantly constructed film with the excellent picture, music, other many points by Akira Kurosawa, as the reputation. Then from my standpoint, I prefer to insist the writer's name; Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, the novelist who has been well-known as a distinguished creator of Japanese tales for 100 years. His works are still outstanding and amazing! About the story, unconsciously I was being absorbed in the three witnesses' recollected scenes which are beautifully idealized by their ego. They are described well enough to show Japanese-like individualities. One of the samurai is so impudent and esteems a strength as a soldier. Another samurai is much more loyal person who tends to respect the beauty of transilent life. A woman thinks much of obedience to men and modest temper. The other extras, that consequently organize the story, are also true as obvious Japanese feature, for example a priest. The description of each character doesn't complete this film as just a mysterious ,silent, or gloomy story as a usual image toward Japanese film. It is rather an extremely funny and well-arranged fairy tale.
Mitt liv som hund (1985)
the most heartwarming, my best.
"MY LIFE AS A DOG" is certainly my best film. Especially when I feel somehow composed, this movie always let me notice that such an uneasiness in my heart has been washed by an extremely tender way. Instead of the eradicated dirtiness, unconsciously I get full of warm affection and mildness. About each occurrences in this movie, however, I cannot describe which scene is the most impressive, the sad, or comical, because I think there is no exactly deliberate scene but just a boy's thought and life with his mother, brother, pet dog, other relative, friends, and other villagers.
The very basic natural humanity is vividly presented through those people. For example the boy, who is the main character, is normally of sensibilities and admirable as a 12 years old child. He is sometimes mischief and shows curiosity about girls, other time weeps missing his mom and his pet dog. While the boy seems to be about to get the sadness over and be going to grow mentally as well in the village. Because the people, to say the least, love to share something amusing with others.
Therefore I say that the heartwarming wonderfulness produced by this movie lies in the whole elements. Any fragment cannot be separated even bright sun ray particle in a car, roof fixing noise, and so on. Every details have a reason for being in the movie actually, so feeling moved comes slowly and deeply, top that off, gently. To get a mild temper, this is one of superb movies. For me, this is the best.
Die Salzmänner von Tibet (1997)
a real Tibetan tribe
"THE SALTMEN OF TIBET" is a spiritual film about Tibetan tribe. About Tibetan culture, I'm a person who had no knowledge. Therefore, it is tremendously interesting, and deep shocking to face them; a nomadic tribe who are naturally faithful to legends, rules that's living for as long as 2,000 years. On the other hand, the film indicates that modern trucks are gradually invading that sacred lake where the Tibetan get salt as their one of main commodities. This must be extremely confusing things for the tribe to see such monstrous industrial stuff. Nevertheless, while they accept their fate of the today's harsh trade, they take measures to it at their congregation, and devote into their eternal work which is to saw up completed colorful yak, in harmonious and friendly atmosphere, and such the attitude gives much deeper impression, and warns to be aware of their existence. Especially the last scene engraves their extreme intent true picture on my mind.
