Jason, Bonnie, The Mighty Blue Kings, and The Green Mill
19 September 1999
If not for these four things, this movie would be unbearable. Jason Lee is the best, and cutest, skateboarder turned actor on this or any other planet. He brings a sweet vulnerability to every character I have seen him play. Kudos to you, sir! When I rule the world, Bonnie Hunt will be in every movie that is made. The woman is a comic genius, 'nuff said. As for the Kings, modern swing does not get any better. Plus, Ross is a hotty. And then there is the Mill. Quite possibly the coolest bar ever. Al Capone used to own it, what more can I say? If you're in Chicago, you must check it out. This is a great video to watch, cuz you can fast forward through the numerous boring parts!

Too cute for words

What a sweet movie!! Kasdan strikes again. The man has a gift for the ensemble film. Judging from the applause at the end of the movie, I'd say he could have another "Big Chill" on his hands. The best way to sum up this movie is to say it will make you smile from ear to ear the entire way through. It is a genuine heartfelt slice of life look at a small town. I did have a problem sitting through the "Unsolved Mysteries" scenes, since, alas, I have seen "Baseketball" one too many times, but other than that, I'd say it was great. Loren Dean's best work since "Say Anything..." and I must say that it is fabulous to see Jason Lee skating again!!!!! Keep it up, buddy. Tony Hawk is getting old, you must carry on the old traditions!!!

The Haunting (1999)
Oh, the fabulous cheeze.....

Where do I start? It was, as Richard E. Grant says in a movie I'm embarrassed to admit I've seen: "...absolutely perfect without being any good." Or, as Winona Ryder says in Reality Bites: "so cheesy, I can't watch it without crackers." I have to put this movie in my cheesy horror movie hall of fame. It is nothing but fun from start to the overblown CGI, ripped off from Nightmare on Elm Street 4 ending. God Bless that Jan de Bont for first giving me Twister, and now this little beauty!

Wow!

I just have to say that I adore this movie! I just watched it for the first time in many years, and I had forgotten how wonderful a film it truly is. A smart, headstrong, loving girl sets off across country to reconnect with her father, what more do you need from a movie? A cool dog? Oh yeah, that's in here too! A must see for every young girl questioning their place in society. I loved it!

Nightwatch (1997)
Ay Caramba!

The entire time I was watching this movie I was thinking, "This had to have been written by someone who speaks english as a second or possibly third language." Lo and behold, it is! Why do we Americans insist on remaking perfectly good foreign films? I am almost positive the original version was much better, at least I hope so. Even help from the master Soderberg didn't help. And what's with Ewan McGregor's accent? It was worse than Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood!" I think Nick Nolte phoned this one in, but, once again, John C. Reilly was great, albeit uncredited. Overall, I'd say it's ok if you dig cheesy suspense movies with Josh Brolin.
