Circuitry Man (1990)
An Okay film
It's an okay film. No monsters, no aliens, no computer graphics. What makes this film interesting is it is able to convey a plot with a modest to say the least budget a scifi film. It reminds me of William Gibson and Jonathan Lethem's writing in style and noirish presentation. The only thing wrong with it is the stupid, sad, and moronic atempts at humor. Especially that polic officer assistant that is supposed to be a comic relief. Other than that, you have to give the filmmaker's credit.
You've Got Mail (1998)
How many times have we seen this?
How many times have we seen this? Nothing in 'You've Got Mail' was new. It was all done before. We have seen Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks fall in love the same number of times Roseanne has had a TV show. We have seen the same lame "jokes" about the complications of buying coffee. We have also seen 'Shop Around The Corner' with Jimmy Stewart. Nothing was new in 'Mail' except the addition of email and even that was tired and lame. The film should have explored the relation between personal computers and people more. Like what your nickname inflects upon your personality for example. That would of been interesting.
