Autumn in New York (2000)
A very long 100 minutes
I seem to find a way to enjoy most movies. I'm not overly critical and only look for the good in movies.
Unfortunately when you get a movie that is an absolute snorefest it is hard to find many positives. While I was trying to stay awake I found the Gere/Ryder relationship hard to swallow. In fact I was rather disturbed by it.
In some movies I have been known to get a bit emotional, but with this movie's supposed emotional ending I really couldn't have cared either way (although it was very predictable). In fact I was quite happy as it meant that the movie must be ending.
Now I'm not a fan of Romance movies on a whole, but this was bad even for a romance movie. Do not pay anything to see this and only watch it if it is your last option.

Chapter Zero (1999)
Starts off promisingly then slackens off
'Chapter Zero' starts out as a promising comedy, but quickly descends into a drama. The movie seems to plod through the middle stages as our main star tries to cope with what could be a mid-life crisis at the age of 29 (turning 30).
It seems that our writer/director uses all his comedic material at the start of the film and then wonders how he can further develop his characters without the witty and funny comments. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of quality drama and comedy, however after the strong beginning I suppose I was expecting a little more.
The acting was adequate throughout and it was great to see Laurel Holloman again. I am becoming quite a fan of hers. It was also good to see the writer/director not end the movie in the predictable way and actually throw up some surprises.
I recommend this movie to people who enjoy a comedy/drama and can put up with a slow middle section. It is worth sitting through and you will get quite a few laughs. Just don't expect a laugh riot. I know I will never look at turtle wax in the same way again.
7/10
Super Troopers (2001)
Has its moments but just not enough of them
Super Troopers is a movie spattered with great comedic moments, mildly humorous jokes and some down right sleep enducing moments (maybe a little harsh, perhaps I should reclassify them as bad jokes that don't work at all). As has all ready been stated the best jokes are in the previews, so you find yourself searching for fresh material that doesn't live up to what you expect from a comedy movie. At its best it is a movie to rent from the video store when there's nothing else out or if you happen to be entertaining people who find a naked fat man being covered in castor sugar funny. Enjoy the funny moments because there just aren't enough of them to sustain this movie.
Lost Highway (1997)
What was it all about?
What exactly is this movie about? I have just watched it for the first time and really can't tell you what the movie is about as it totally confused me. Even though I didn't know what was going on, I was often left in amazement at what I was watching. After I watched it I tried to work out what had just happened and what the movie was trying to say to me. I just got more confused to the point where I had trouble telling anyone what the main focus of the movie was. Even though I didn't know what was going on, what I knew was that I was thoroughly enjoying what I was watching.
It is the first David Lynch film that I've seen, and it has inspired me to check out some of his other movies. I can only hope they are as enjoyable, but a bit easier to understand.
Freeway (1996)
Shocking
I had heard good things about this film, so I was excited to see it. It started off interesting enough, but I hoped it would get better. But it only got worse. So bad I struggled to watch the end of the movie. But I ploughed through this overlong movie and could only think of one word to describe it. SHOCKING! That is in the sense that it did shock me, and I thought it was dreadful. I had liked Reese Witherspoon in a couple of her earlier movies ( Fear, SFW) but this movie seemed to bring her down as well. And Kiefer Sutherland's movies seem to get worse. He used to make good movies now he just chooses badly. Apparently some people do enjoy movies like these, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Blood and Wine (1996)
Intriguing and Compelling
This movie was gripping and held perfectly together by the actors. Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine and Stephen Dorff all put in memorable performances with Michael Caine rivalling Jack Nicholson with a mesmerising lunatic performance. It is a good movie and well worth seeing.
12 Monkeys (1995)
Complex and Riveting
This movie while not being a classic is still a fantastic gripping tale. When I first saw it in 1996 I was confused and overwhelmed by the concepts involved. But having just viewed this movie again am now of the opinion that it gets better each time you view it. The performances while more than adequate weren't overly memorable but it is the wonderful script and Gilliam's fantastic directing which makes this movie a great way to spend two hours.
