Popular (1999)
I don't quite get it
I have watched several episodes of "Popular", and I don't think I quite got it; Is it a parody about other teen soaps like Dawson's Creek or the aging BH90210, or is it so serious that it becomes stupid?
Please, please, please answer me.
Ha-Tzel, Shel Hachiuch Shelchah (1998)
Romance in the military
I know it's a little stupid to say that, since only Israelis CAN watch this movie, but only people who served in the army can realize what it's like. This movie is all about sweet and pure love. Love that has nothing to do with looks or anything. I find this movie very touching and even 'cute'. From the cinematic aspects of this review I might add, that the art director gave the right feeling of being cramped in a bunker for a month, and the lighting crew did a marvelous job in 'neoning' the scenes.
Watched it 3 times, will watch it again.
Ke'Ilu Klum Lo Kara (1999)
Israeli Life at its best
It's been only one hour since I watched this drama, and I still haven't fully understood its meaning. It gives the Israeli life in 1994 at its fullest. Bergor's movie catches the fear of the death during the terrorist attacks of that period. One of the best dramas I've ever seen.
Left Luggage (1998)
Hassidics and the Shoah (Holocaust)
Since I live in Israel, I've seen many films about the Hassidic community, but I've never seen a film that combines two of the heaviest subjects in Israeli society. The connection between the two main woman characters (Chaya and Mrs. Kalman), the connection in silence between Chaya and Mr. Kalman, and most important, the connection between Chaya and Simcha, which was nipped in the bud, we're all magnificently described. It also introduces the viewer to the closed worlds of both the Hassidics and the Holocaust Survivors. Excellent, touching and interesting.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Best Cult, Best movie
This is the best show in town. If you can, catch it in the nearest theater. Be sure to check sites concerning to know the etiquette for this movie. The only place you can fool around and then look normal!
Yatzati L'Hapes Ahavah - Techef Ashuv (1997)
The movie that touches your inner feelings
I've watched this movie twice, and I plan to see it again. It is the movie that puts you in the director's place, regarding his romantic relations and the political situation in Israel. It also makes me cry because of remembering the wonderful time it was, and the horrible murder described there. It is really worth watching.
