Invasion of the Animal People (1959)
A real cheapie
I have seen a lot of obscure films and am pretty sure that this one must have had the lowest budget in making it. There is a man-like creature that is HUGE- he probably stands 40-60 feet tall. Anyway the Eskimo villagers throw fire torches at it.As for the plot- there may not even be one, other than these people go out into the frozen tundra to look for a cheapie spaceship and then end up skiing half the countryside. I do however, appreciate this show's obscurity- there is , as far as I've ever seen, nothing quite like it- It makes "Plan 9 From Outer Space" look like "Gone With The Wind".
The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues (1955)
A lot to follow in this show
I am sure that, by now, this movie is difficult to obtain-due to its popularity. This is unfortunate. There is a lot of activity within this show; more than most of what the 50's had to offer. Of course this is only my opinion. It has a moral story-dealing with mans ability to alter God's creations in the sea. It also contains a crime drama story as special agents try to uncover a Russian spy plot to steal the scientific formulas to gain military strength.
This movie has a special aptitude similar to that of "IT Conquered the World". Provides one to think about what is being said- rather than just watching a so-called dumb old science fiction show. I hope this movie comes more available for others to see. If you can appreciate 50's science fiction you can really enjoy The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues.
The Brain from Planet Arous (1957)
This show is crazy and needs to be seen
This movie has a very simple plot-it provides for a lot of drama: A bad brain takes over John Agar's body and tries to take over the planet and a good brain takes over his girlfriend's dog's body-the good brain has to try to stop the bad one. But it is a crazy film because you get to actually get to see the brains-at the beginning and at the end of the show- flying around. I recommend watching this show if you haven't seen it before, especially if you get in a mood to watch a wacky film. I own this film and am proud of it- my favorite scene in the film is when John Agar(who is being controlled by the bad brain)-tells an assembly of foreign ambassadors to conform to his demands;the Russian guy stops and says "...that's impossible, Russia will never stand for this..." John Agar replies "I have a simple solution to that- th'ill be no more Russia." I am not sure- but the dog in this movie looks exactly like the one in "Revenge of the Creature" John Agar stars in that one too.
It Conquered the World (1956)
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SCI FI OF THE 50'S
I have seen a lot of older science fiction films and this one is probably way underrated. It is beyond a doubt - containing the most ridiculous monster from another planet-getting prepared to take over the earth with the use of robotic bats that sting people into thinking of a world revolution. But also, the film has plenty of things to ponder that regard the goodness of mankind or lack thereof- the ability for people to think for themselves...and so on and so forth.. This movie stars a young Peter Graves as the good guy and Lee Van Cleef as the bad guy and if you are a fan of either then you should see it just for that- I think the monster is so dumb looking that it is worth it just for that- But nonetheless, it is a good Roger Corman film in which others may beg to differ with my opinion. Most of all -this show has a very good story line you should pay attention to it because it makes it one of the best sci fi movies of the 50's
Frankenstein (1931)
Top of the line
This is the best horror film on record in my opinion - it provides a great atmosphere- one perhaps more suitable for horror films during its time period- most people today will not appreciate it for the genuine integrity the movie has- and that is to horrify you with the idea of building a living being out of dead people. Furthermore, movies were never meant to copy a book- this is my opinion and I respect those of others.
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
best car chase movie ever
I saw this movie at the theatre when it came out AND found it in a video store about 7 years ago and it is the best car-chase movie -I like it better than "BULLET". If you like Mustangs- you'll be glad to know that this movie glorified them. Call around some of your smaller video rental stores and see if they have it- I bet you can find one that does!
