Teen Wolf Too (1987)
Am I missing something here?
Usually a movie - - even an awful one - - has to make a ton of money to warrant a sequel. Godfather, Batman, Superman, Star Wars - - Teen Wolf?? When did the original become the blockbuster to earn another telling? Anyway, it's a howling dog of a movie. But you knew that already.
Showgirls (1995)
Like a car crash
I agree, this is not a brilliant piece of work. However, there are some sex scenes, that, for better or worse, you can't stop watching, like a gruesome auto accident on the side of the road.
Mallrats (1995)
Not as good as Clerks, Chasing Amy
I agree that of the three Kevin Smith films, this one is probably the worst. Of course, any Kevin Smith movie is better than most mainstream films. However, I have heard that even Kevin didn't like this one very much. He wanted to make a coming-of-age movie, he said, and it ended up being a Fast Times at Ridgemont High knock-off.
Still, it's a fun movie with some hilarious moments. Snoochie-noochie, bickety-bam!!
It's too bad his Superman film got shelved. But, I, like the rest of you, am anxiously looking forward to Dogma!!
A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988)
One of the worst ever
Something truly rare in film: a disaster on every level. River Phoenix takes himself way too seriously in the title role of a hipster-doofus poet on the night everyone supposedly discovers what a genius he is. It's a film chock full of bad acting, bad writing, bad staging, and the most asinine, sanctimonious poetry ever heard. It makes Mike Myers' parody in So I Married an Axe Murderer sound like William Shakespeare. Of course, since River and Ione Skye are so good-looking, we're supposed to take them seriously. To paraphrase Heathers, it's teen-angst you-know-what. Don't fall for it. I admonish you all to leave in the 59-cent bin of your local video store where it belongs.
Lauderdale (1989)
Beaches, binges and blonde bimbos!
There ought to be a MST3K-type show that shows these cheap, racy, knock-off spring-break movies. This particular show is one of my favorites because I was going to Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale when this movie was filmed. City Limits is an actual club, and the actual house band appeared in the movie. The best scene is the shot of "star" Janine Lindemulder (she appeared in Penthouse and now does porn) jamming with Frank Vocale and the band (nice hair, Frank!). They then cut to the next scene of a bar in the club, the music still playing in the background . . . and the band members are sitting at the bar having a drink!!
